Registration requires first post

We all hate the people who register and then never post. We also know that getting someone to post their first thread or post is the hardest one to get done, but that those that do usually go on to post more.

So how about an option in the user registration which requires a user to make an introduction post. The configurable options should be the forum id for where the post will appear and a default Topic name which can be customisable but allows the use of vBulletin variables (such as the username).

This would mean that once the registration is completed (and this would include moderation if this is enabled) then the post would appear. A default purge setting for registrations that haven't been completed within a configurable number of days should be available.

Just a thought really.

Personally, I wouldn't like to see this on my forum. Why? It will create a lot of people not to register because they have to go through the effort of making a welcome post, it will also create alot of one post wonders, and multiple welcome threads a day. I don't see how that would benefit my community. If it works for you guys that's cool, but that's what I see wrong with it.

hmm - well my forum is 3 months old and just the thought of having everyone who registers @ least say hello in our Member Introductions forum would be heavenly - I could see how older forums would and/or could not benefit from a hack like this LOL - but for younger forums - I think it'd be a HUGE plus :)

JUST thought I'd mention that I'd still like to see this at some point if anyone's interested :)

Email Confirmation requires first post <-- just my 2 cents, since i don't like to coding stuff, so just wait for other peoples to code it

its doesnt matter for me that they're posting or not

I was actually interested in thsi mysefl. After seeing a few thousand on lookers never make a post, and people make posts once then go away silently.

But what I wanted was a fourm "Introduction" - until you make a post in that forum, you cannot post any where else. I have seen the message "You have not made your first post " and have to find that mod also :)

Then see if it has been modified, to direct the user to a specific forum.

As for an introduction forum, that would trip their post count from 0 to 1, and would you not have an event or trigger to move them to a different group for security / ability to post elsewhere?

Not sure of the vBulletin lingo on this, as this is my first vBulletin forum...

I just use the promotions system....

Registered members with 0 posts can only see the introduction forum, once they make a post they are promoted to a user group that can see the entire forum.

SEE or POST? I would want anyone to SEE the forums...but posting would be different....private forums excluded of course

You could set it either way with user group permissions...
