White screen of death?

Sorry for the sarcastic humor, but you know.....

Anyway, I keep getting a blank white screen when clicking links on my site.

I cleared my cookies
I turned off VBSEO
I turned of almost every plugin that wasn't stock and it is still happening.

Then I backed up the database, did a repair and I still get a blank page and the bottom of the browser it says "Done".

My users are all getting the same error and it happens after you click 3-4 different links on the site. I notice it does it mostly on the New posts function.

My server is dedicated to me and one other small business. We have tons of space and bandwidth.

Anyone that can point me in the right direction would be a hero!

Have you done any recent updates?

Last thing I installed was VBSEO about 3 weeks ago.

No other updates except I was considering 3.6.1 soon and I don't want to install in on a broken forum

Delphiprogrammi 09-26-2006 09:32 PM

are you using by any chance vbportal ? then this is a known problem .....

This kind of problem usually occours when you try to display something but the template(s) used for it are not there or not correct. You should try a new style (no parent) this will force it to use the default templates and see what happens

Sangrun 09-26-2006 09:45 PM

I customized my default style to the colors and options I wanted instead of installing a different style. Not sure if that was smart as I assumed it did not make a difference.

My portal was VBA CMPS. I turned it off today and and wasn't tweaked out of the regular options either.

The one thing weird that I forgot to add was when VB SEO was installed, I put my URL in as portal page which was not the root. My URL was forced over to http://www.anyforum.com/cmps_index.php intead of http://www.anyforum.com "anyforum" is just and example for this posting.

VBSEO did not like the cpms_index.php extension, so I used the straight URL which landed people at my forum home. I know it's odd stuff and you can see my explanation below.

I inherited this forum right after it was installed and it would seem that the person who installed it did not put the root in the right place? He is a VB savvy person and maybe he did this for a reason?

Unfortunately he broke contact with me and the other partner as he had personal issues. We couldn't contact him for weeks on end and when we did I think he just wanted out, so we left him out.

vbseo doesn't have any problems with vBa,,
have you checked your .htaccess file ?

Ah, okay... When I installed VBSEO I had to make some changes to that and the great guys at the VBSEO site helped me out with it. It was problematic to say the leas when I installed VBSEO as nothing went like it should have.

What exactly might I be looking for? To make sure it is there? Changes to it or anything?

Another error I have seen in the last few hours is avatars vanishing. Instead of the avatar it will post a url in the avatar space to that user's avatar, but not all avatars will be like that everytime the page loads.

I hope I don't sound too much like a hopeless fool to all of you.

PHP 5?

eaccelerator?

Any other optimizing code?

Sangrun 09-26-2006 10:37 PM

PHP 4.4.1

No eaccelerator

No other optimizing code that I know of unless it was installed early on before I took over.

My forum has only been up since early may and I have about 540 members so far.

Here is my htaccess file text.

Well crud.....

When I go to my URL now I get the white page of death or a blank page for those not following.

If you turn off VBSEO you need to remove the htaccess file.

Bingo! I was thinking and thinking what do I need to do to mke the VBSEO stop as it seemed it was not completely off so to speak.

Thank you!

Code Monkey,

That worked and things are running famously now. I think I will upgrade this weekend and sort of start over by not installing so many hacks.

Thank you and everyone else replied.

Code Monkey 09-27-2006 01:30 PM

You should contact VBSEO so they can detemine if there was a hack confilct.
