Vote - digg the thread

Hello, I like using Post Thank you Hack wich I use not for "thank you" but for "I agree".

But I would like to have a hack that will aloww members to vote for thread with "+" or "-" and then to have a list of best threads ...

Is there anythink like that available or is there anybody interested to code this?

This should be simmilar to digg.com or pligg.com etc. but work only for one forum.
Current voting system doesnt make that solution.

This Is Interesting It Should Bump Threads Aswell Or Give Users A Option To View Threads From Newest To Oldest Or Most Diggedto Least Digged....if Only I Was A Coder:(

kafi 09-29-2006 06:25 PM

hmm no coder want to have hack of the month? I bet this will by thriving hack...

tazB.ca 10-01-2006 09:22 PM

How about a paid hack that lets users vote for a thread + or - (or thumb down or up or whatever) but also awards points to the thread creator for threads that get rated up?

If you can do this PM me so we can set something up price-wise.

This has been discussed and tried on other forum software, but the general results have been poor. However if your forum is a very opinionated forum with lots of debates, it may provide better results.

I think I'll look in to this once I've finished a quick & simple plug-in for someone else. I can't promise anything, but it sounds like a fun thing to do. Although I'm not interested in making it a paid thing :P

I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.. I could use something like pligg, but i would prefer to use VB. People would have the ability to 'digg' down posts / spam Active discussion would show up on the frontpage etc...

I would be willing to pay and im sure others would be as well. If any coders are interested let us know...

It would be neat if we as a community could even pay to have it developed and release the code to everyone so it can be developed even further...

I'll get around to releasing it one day, I swear it...

Dismounted 12-25-2006 07:24 AM

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I would be willing to code one.

Do you want it on a per-post and per-thread, or just one of them?

per thread, i think per-post on a large forum would be too resource intensive. btw, im also interested in this ;)

EricaJoy 12-26-2006 03:08 PM

Yes, per thread please with the ability to turn it on and off on a per forum basis.

Brandon Sheley 12-26-2006 04:18 PM

why don't you do it the easy way and use the thanks hack, and make a new button ;)

problem fixed..

Dismounted 12-27-2006 02:30 AM

Still requires coding :p.

ForumDog 12-27-2006 09:42 AM

It does, quite a bit actually. And I know because that's exactly how I did it. :D Besides which you can't just re-release someone else's modded code unless it's really very modded indeed, for your own private site use is fine.

However I've been hassled about this enough, I've started building the forumdog.com feature into a plugin today. Don't ask me when it'll be out, it's done when it's done. It'll replicate what I did for my own forum, not quite the same as replicating Digg.

Dismounted 12-27-2006 09:49 AM

Or you could just get permission from the author :).

ForumDog 12-27-2006 02:04 PM

I was told that I could only use the code to release a different type of hack or an add on. It simply won't work as an add on and it's a bit of a grey area as to whether it's a different type or not, it's certainly intended for a different purpose and has a different effect on the forum. But it's similar in other ways too.

I'll just have to make it substantially different as best I can. :)
