Found another vbulletin.org rip off site, how can I destroy them?

Hi all. I complained about this before, but another site (chinese I think) is mirroring the hacks here.

The buggers are even hotlinking from my webspace.

Does anyone know how I can change external links hotlinked on that site only to say, goatse? I don't want to have hotlink protection on in general, just to piss off the users of that site.

Paul M 09-08-2006 03:55 PM

vb.org policy is not to allow the posting of links to these sites so I have removed it.

Kirk Y 09-08-2006 04:24 PM

I'm sure it can be done via .htaccess - but I don't enough about all the .htaccess rules to be able to tell you exactly; try Google.

DrewM 09-08-2006 05:12 PM

you use:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.yoursite.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.yoursite.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp)$ - [F,NC]

Is that generic hotlink protection? Cause I don't want that, I want one just directly at specific sites or sites..

maybe there's something in my cpanel...

Since my post has been edited, I've lost my initial link.

To answer two of my questions at once, since I'm not allowed to post my mods as open source, do I have to link everyone to this pirate site when I want to show other forum owners not running vbulletin cool bbcodes to install?

*gets double points for making post relevent to two threads at once :D *

Marco van Herwaarden 10-02-2006 04:21 PM

Please define what you mean with 'Open Source'?

Borgs8472 10-03-2006 09:08 PM

I just want to post my bbcode thread so unregistered users can see the code. I guess I'd prefer they give me some credit for them but I think it's better code be spread without credit than not at all so it wouldn't be essential.

That's open source is it not?

Marco van Herwaarden 10-05-2006 08:36 AM

That is not what the normal definition of Open Source is, but allowing unregistered to see code will not happen here at vb.org.

Borgs8472 10-06-2006 12:16 PM

How far off am I then from the correct definition?

In any case I don't care. I just want my bbcode thread open so I can refer forums I frequent who are running different softwares to it. Else I'll have to refer them to the pirate thread.

I don't quite follow, I can't see any mention of a closed thread anywhere, perhaps you could link to it.

Kirk Y 10-06-2006 04:38 PM

He wants the ability to create a Hack Thread - I assume with a BBCode Modification of some sort contained therein - and that Guests (Unlicensed Users) be able to view the Code contained within Code, PHP, HTML, etc. Tags.

Paul M 10-06-2006 05:13 PM

That's not going to happen.

Kirk Y 10-06-2006 05:22 PM

Yup, as Marco said a few posts above.

The copy of the thread on on the pirate forum. Which you removed the link to.

That site is better to refer people to than vb.orgs and it shouldn't be.

Marco van Herwaarden 10-09-2006 06:34 AM

vBulletin.org is to provide users running a valid vBulletin license with modifications.

It is not a site for unlicensed users to find resources.

Nothing more to add to this discussion.

Cap'n Steve 10-10-2006 01:57 AM

So you want to point people running other software to a thread here? I'm pretty sure phpBB and IPB have some more appropriate place to post that. Plus, I'm sure the interfaces for adding BBcodes are different and it'd be a nightmare to support all of them in one thread.

I'm not reffering to unlicensed users, but to users of other forum software.

On the basis of your initial statement there should not be a general coding help forum, misc discussion, chat room or all the other features vb.org has.

So, why not expand the scope some more?

Users of any other forum software are unlicensed users (unless they have a vbulletin licence as well). How many times do we have to say this before it sinks in ? - this is a vbulletin site - downloads are not going to be opened to non licensed users, no matter how many times/ways you ask.

Borgs8472 10-12-2006 01:02 PM

I don't want all downloads open, just some.

Expand the scope of the site a little.

Marco van Herwaarden 10-12-2006 01:33 PM

You have asked your question now many times, the answer still is No and that will not change.
