She's like abad fart that keeps following you!
I have a user who continues to create new identities (she's on number 5 now) to get on my board! She is on AOL so I don't think there is a way to ban her by IP address. Man I wish there was a mod to ban by MAC address - that would be AWESOME.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this person the heck away from my community? Is there a hack that could help? |
Try installing the miserable users mod. Don't ban her, but make it really hard for her to surf the site. With any luck, she'll think the site is slow and having tech difficulties and will give up and go away.

see... I tried that. Nothing works! I didn't think my community was THAT great! HA!
|
I believe there is also a mod that checks new regs to see if they might be existing users. If I remember correctly, it puts these users in queue so their registration has to be approved. She most likely uses similar passwords when she registers each time. A good script would watch for that.

Oh you rock Amy - Thanks! I will put a mod request in for that script! I will go look for that mod you mention and put a link here in case anyone else needs it

I'm with you on the ban for MAC address , its going to be the only way to ban effectively, but can it be done ?
|
More than likely not - if it could be done it would have been done already is what I'm thinkin.

You can wild card ban either in admincp/vBulletin Options/User Banning Options ........but I use miserable users when I want to have some laughs, cause let me tell you it is worse then being banned.
|
@1996 - yeah I have that... but if someone clears their cookies it's of no use. :(
|
I have a mod on mine that detects you already have an account and shows it as registrations disabled

I think that if Java is enabled you can grab these credentials cant you? |
Bear in mind if i had to load a java app on every page I'd never visit the site twice.

We had someone who kept re-registering, he was using all kinds of IP's so it was impossible to stop him from continue registering. In CP/vBullitin Options/User Banning Options, you can put the user ID# in the tacky goes to coventry. It basically puts them on everyone's ignore list. So no matter what they do, no one can see it. They think we are still seeing what they say, but we can't. It's worked like a charm. And we don't have to keep banning him.
|
Is there any way to store a cookie on someone's PC when you ban them, thus banning future registrations while the cookie is present? That would be a good way to prevent those rolling IP's from re-registering.

nope
