I wish to post some of my mods as open-source or similar

Hey all.

As I become less involved in vbulletin management, but still using message boards in general, I want to share my bbcode mods with many of the message boards I frequent, e.g. phpbb, ipb and so on.

However unless I'm to put together my own webpage for them (too lazy!) I can't link board owners to my bbcode thread as you have to be licensed...

Would it be possible to mark a thread as open source in this case? Do I have to make my own webpage? A vbulletin page looks so more authorative...

Just post the modification on that particular site's own mod database or mod site. It doesn't make sense for competitors to come to vB.org for modifications.

As you say, only licensed users can download from vb.org, I can't see that ever changing.

I don't want to register will multiple sites, figure out their coding standards, jump through the hoops to release a modification, fix the mod several times due to forum changes and definately don't want to do any sort of support anywhere else.

I don't own PHP/IPB and don't want to even pirate it to learn the system, I do however want to extend the usage of my mods.

If I changed my [ code ] tags to [ quote ] and changed the attachment to a link on my site, would that be allowed?

No.

Code must be in code tags.
And modifications should be released here on vb.org and not on another site and linked to.

If you want to distribute your modifications at vbulletin.org, then you are mostly welcomed, but you will have to follow our rules.

Borgs8472 08-21-2006 07:09 AM

Then I propose the rules be amended to reflect the fact my mods in question are not bulletin board software specific and I do not wish them to be protected.

Paul M 08-21-2006 05:47 PM

Sorry, but there is no reason for us to do that.

That's one of the basic rules here - that you must be licensed to download.

So shall I learn phpbb or ipb enough so I can post reasonably at their forums, remove my content here and just link to those threads?

TPOCJames 08-22-2006 11:17 AM

Like they said, just follow the rules...

So wait, you don't have vBulletin, but you want to share bbCodes and convert them over to vB use?

Borgs8472 08-22-2006 12:13 PM

I do have vbulletin, I want to share my codes more easily with other forums I visit.

Marco van Herwaarden 08-22-2006 02:58 PM

This site is about sharing vBulletin resources, not resources for other boards.

Our rules on attachments and code visibility suit our needs perfectly and we don't have any plans to change that.

My smileys and bbcodes are not vbulletin specific. Maybe a forum for non-vb specific hacks? :)

Ziki 08-31-2006 05:26 PM

Smilies can be reproduced anywhere and bbcodes are just usual html or js.So it is ok
