New posts and reputation comments.
This modification is no longer available or supported. The 3.6 port of this simple hack with some small changes. This displays the number of new posts since your last visit & the number of new reputation comments since you last checked your usercp - both are displayed in the welcome panel. Changes ; * Fixed bug of them not showing on error pages. * Either can be now turned off with a setting in vBulletin Options > Display New Posts and Reputation. Notes: If upgrading from the 3.5 version then you will need to re-do the template changes. Versions 3.21+ do not require any manual template changes. See Post #167 History: v3.11 : Initial vb 3.6 release, bug fixs and settings added. v3.12 : Updated for Version Checking. v3.13 : Internal code updates, not released. v3.14 : Phrases Updated. v3.15 : Minor code changes (not released). v3.16 : Changes to the way displayed messages are built. v3.17 : SQL Changes to use slave. v3.18 : Fixed broken Index creation (on install). v3.19 : Internal development version (not released). v3.20 : Internal development version (not released). v3.21 : Manual template edits removed, seperate settings group added. v3.22 : Links prefix added. v3.23 : Added forum viewing permissions check to count. |

Thanks for the update Paul. :)
thank you
Come on people, if you use this then please remember to click on that install link. :)
hey paul, it didnt work for me. no changes made to the templates. im using the default vb 3.6.0 template.
What do you mean "no changes made to the templates" ?
This has template changes, if you don't make them then it's not going to work .... |

I haven't changed or re-uploaded the zip.
nice hack.

Paul can this be used with the Count of unread posts in the welcome box you have as well? I have that one installed and would like this as well.
I will try it out! Thanks Paul. :)

Works great.
fyi: "display reputation" has to be enabled for members who want to view the "new reputation comments" in the userinfo box.
took me a while to figure out :) |
so if my boards rep system is turned off it will only show the new posts?
i like the way yours is laid out compared to the other version on here that says Number Of Unread Posts: 0 |
dont work for me or my members, other hack works fine & i have reinstalled it, but your shows unread posts even when they have been read ?
Correct, this is new posts, not unead posts.
Unread posts is a different mod, this was it's predecessor (from vb's 3.0 days) but is still used by many people. |
Someone just asked what happened to this. Thanks for the 3.6 update. :)
When trying to access the new posts link from another directory (ie. /gallery/) the link is prefixed with /gallery/. I tried to edit the profile to set the complete link (worked on 3.5) but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?
You would have to edit the phrases to put in full paths instead of relative ones.
Wonderful! Found it thanks! :)
Thanks Paul M, fore updating this hack.
But this time it wont work. I have uploaded the product and done the templates changes. And done the editing in CP. It wont register new posts and reputation comments. Ore it wont count the numbers, of new rwp comment ore new post. |
yeh i tried saying it still showed posts AFTER they had been read, and got told it was ment to do this ?

Now it wont tell anything. Just, new posts. |
Gonzoo; I have uninstalled it and went back to the version fore 3.5, it works. ;)
Both work fine.
Someone want to tell me how I can get the:
"New Posts since your last visit: XXX" BELOW the: "You have no new reputation comments." Or above it. I just don't like it right under the Welcome message. |
Just move the template edits to suit where you want them.
It seemed that when I moved them to the bottom...below all the usual welcome stuff...nothing showed up. When I put them in where your instructions told me...they showed up. Very strange. I understand it is a very simple text edit and I am not a complete moron...so I dunno what happened.
installed..:)
rep comment not work in mozilla firefox
Yes it does.
I've cleaned up the plugins slightly, and altered the phrasing so it's much more like the pre 3.6 versions.
merci :)
One issue I ran into with this is my CMPS front page is 'below' the /forum directory structure, so the phrased links were breaking, but only from that front page. For the moment, I hardcoded the full URL to the search page into the two main "new post" phrases as $vboptions[bburl]/ didn't work. Wondering if there's a better solution?
use "/forum/search.php", that should work.
Im sorry, but i have troubel with this.
It wont show how many new post. |
You'll have to be a bit more specific than that.
Also, have you done the template edits ? |

I went back to your version 3.5 and now it works. It only stood; Be Post; since last visit ...... blank. ;) |
