New posts and reputation comments.

This modification is no longer available or supported.

The 3.6 port of this simple hack with some small changes.

This displays the number of new posts since your last visit & the number of new reputation comments since you last checked your usercp - both are displayed in the welcome panel.

Changes ;

* Fixed bug of them not showing on error pages.
* Either can be now turned off with a setting in vBulletin Options > Display New Posts and Reputation.

Notes:

If upgrading from the 3.5 version then you will need to re-do the template changes.
Versions 3.21+ do not require any manual template changes. See Post #167

Paul M 08-14-2006 06:31 PM

Come on people, if you use this then please remember to click on that install link. :)

wtrk 08-14-2006 06:37 PM

hey paul, it didnt work for me. no changes made to the templates. im using the default vb 3.6.0 template.

Paul M 08-14-2006 06:42 PM

What do you mean "no changes made to the templates" ?

This has template changes, if you don't make them then it's not going to work ....

i see you updated the zip. the first version you uploaded only had the xml in it, no info on what template changes to make so i assumed that the plugin did it during the install process. i just dl'd the zip again and i see you have updated it with the required info.

Paul M 08-14-2006 07:02 PM

I haven't changed or re-uploaded the zip.

Selene 08-14-2006 11:41 PM

nice hack.

installed it!

RaceJunkie 08-15-2006 02:06 AM

Paul can this be used with the Count of unread posts in the welcome box you have as well? I have that one installed and would like this as well.

Roxie 08-15-2006 02:14 AM

I will try it out! Thanks Paul. :)

Well apart from the fact it seems a bit odd to run both as they do similar things, there is no technical reason I can think of that you cannot.

Roxie 08-15-2006 02:36 AM

Works great.

mat 08-15-2006 11:24 PM

fyi: "display reputation" has to be enabled for members who want to view the "new reputation comments" in the userinfo box.

took me a while to figure out :)

GoNz00 08-16-2006 09:35 AM

so if my boards rep system is turned off it will only show the new posts?

i like the way yours is laid out compared to the other version on here that says Number Of Unread Posts: 0

GoNz00 08-16-2006 11:21 AM

dont work for me or my members, other hack works fine & i have reinstalled it, but your shows unread posts even when they have been read ?

Paul M 08-16-2006 05:01 PM

Correct, this is new posts, not unead posts.

Unread posts is a different mod, this was it's predecessor (from vb's 3.0 days) but is still used by many people.

rinkrat 08-16-2006 06:07 PM

Someone just asked what happened to this. Thanks for the 3.6 update. :)

Roxie 08-17-2006 01:04 AM

When trying to access the new posts link from another directory (ie. /gallery/) the link is prefixed with /gallery/. I tried to edit the profile to set the complete link (worked on 3.5) but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

Paul M 08-17-2006 02:11 AM

You would have to edit the phrases to put in full paths instead of relative ones.

Roxie 08-17-2006 03:31 AM

Wonderful! Found it thanks! :)

Lottis 08-18-2006 05:14 PM

Thanks Paul M, fore updating this hack.
But this time it wont work.
I have uploaded the product and done the templates changes.
And done the editing in CP. It wont register new posts and reputation comments. Ore it wont count the numbers, of new rwp comment ore new post.

GoNz00 08-18-2006 06:23 PM

yeh i tried saying it still showed posts AFTER they had been read, and got told it was ment to do this ?

No, in the earlyer versions, it will tell you fex; There is 900 new posts and you have 4 new reputation comments.
Now it wont tell anything. Just, new posts.

Lottis 08-18-2006 06:44 PM

Gonzoo; I have uninstalled it and went back to the version fore 3.5, it works. ;)

Paul M 08-21-2006 09:45 PM

Both work fine.

version2 08-24-2006 12:58 AM

Someone want to tell me how I can get the:

"New Posts since your last visit: XXX"

BELOW the:

"You have no new reputation comments."

Or above it. I just don't like it right under the Welcome message.

Paul M 08-24-2006 02:16 AM

Just move the template edits to suit where you want them.

version2 08-24-2006 12:34 PM

It seemed that when I moved them to the bottom...below all the usual welcome stuff...nothing showed up. When I put them in where your instructions told me...they showed up. Very strange. I understand it is a very simple text edit and I am not a complete moron...so I dunno what happened.

LILMORA4 09-09-2006 12:55 AM

installed..:)

geevest.com 09-09-2006 03:42 AM

rep comment not work in mozilla firefox

Paul M 09-09-2006 05:03 AM

Yes it does.

Paul M 09-23-2006 07:57 AM

I've cleaned up the plugins slightly, and altered the phrasing so it's much more like the pre 3.6 versions.

sabret00the 09-23-2006 09:50 PM

merci :)

wcbryant 09-24-2006 10:36 AM

One issue I ran into with this is my CMPS front page is 'below' the /forum directory structure, so the phrased links were breaking, but only from that front page. For the moment, I hardcoded the full URL to the search page into the two main "new post" phrases as $vboptions[bburl]/ didn't work. Wondering if there's a better solution?

Paul M 09-24-2006 10:56 AM

use "/forum/search.php", that should work.

Lottis 09-24-2006 01:54 PM

Im sorry, but i have troubel with this.
It wont show how many new post.

Paul M 09-24-2006 03:53 PM

You'll have to be a bit more specific than that.

Also, have you done the template edits ?

I went back to your version 3.5 and now it works.
It only stood; Be Post; since last visit ...... blank. ;)
