URGENT HELP NEEDED....for newby
Ive tried installing a new skin today for my forum and obviously somethings either not worked properly or ive made a hash of things...probably the latter tbh, but the problem is that now i cannot access my board OR the admin CP, is there anyway i can get back into it?? it says database error but i just cannot do anything. Ive contacted vbulletin but obviously its a sunday so there not gonna get back to me in a hurry.....has anyone any advice...ps...i hopefully shouldn't have lost anything should i?
this is what im getting when i try logging in: Database error in vBulletin 3.5.4: Invalid SQL: SELECT userid, username FROM vb_user WHERE vb_userid=62; MySQL Error : Unknown column 'vb_userid' in 'where clause' Error Number : 1054 Date : Sunday, August 13th 2006 @ 09:02:20 AM Script : http://www.ukiron.co.uk/index.php Referrer : IP Address : 88.109.73.221 Username : 5IVE-O Classname : vb_database |
I really don't see how installing a style could do that - did you install some products or plugins as well ?
Try adding PHP Code:

yeah i installed a plug-in just followed what is said really and now all access is gone, im totally bamboozled on how to get access, any ideas? so if i access my server i can do this? i really am a newbie to this, i share the site with an American friend who is more into this type of stuff however its obviously early over there, so im trying to figure it out myself |
On the server you need to edit the file config.php, which is in the includes folder - add that line near the bottom (before the last line).

im now getting this msg when i right click/ source/view
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <title> Database Error</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> <style type="text/css"> <!-- blockquote { margin-top: 75px; } p { font: 11px tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; } --> </style> </head> <body> <blockquote> <blockquote> <p><strong>There seems to have been a problem with the database.</strong><br /> Please try again by clicking the <a href="#" onclick="window.location = window.location;">Refresh</a> button in your web browser.</p> <p>An E-Mail has been dispatched to our <a href="mailto:jforjames@fsmail.net">Technical Staff</a>, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.</p> <p>We apologise for any inconvenience.</p> <!-- Database error in vBulletin : mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'fiveo@linhost201.mesa1.secureserver.net' (Using password: YES) /home/content/f/i/v/fiveo/html/includes/class_core.php on line 279 MySQL Error : Error Number : Date : Sunday, August 13th 2006 @ 10:36:50 AM Script : http://www.ukiron.co.uk/index.php Referrer : IP Address : 88.109.73.221 Username : Classname : vb_database --> </blockquote> </blockquote> </body> </html> |
It seems you are having some database issues
Thats usually when your database connection drops, most likely a hosting problem. Make sure your database still exisits, and if it does make sure the username and password you have for it, are entered into the config.php file |

well im assuming that is a host problem b/c ive not messed with the db prior to this (it still exists) and im nearly 100% sure i haven't messed with the config file, what shold i do when i access the config file? all my members are having probs not just me so is it more than likely a server issue? anyone experienced this? |
Are you sure you didn't change anything else in the config.php

im nearly positive, this is what its saying the fault is: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'fiveo@linhost201.mesa1.secureserver.net' (Using password: YES) /home/content/f/i/v/fiveo/html/includes/class_core.php on line 279 also because my server is obviously online, im havin trouble accessing the config.php file, i just dont know how to do it, sorry for all the silly questions but im really in a rut here:confused:  |
That error message generally means that either the user/password for your database is wrong, or the database name itself is wrong, they are all in the config.php. Since that error started after you edited it, then it really points to something you changed.

so i basically need to access the config.php file and change it? or how do i find out if what and where its going wrong? |
Um, I'm confused now, did you edit your config.php [as I posted before] or not ?
|
do you have a backup if so the reupload your config.php and that should resolve that issue!

UPDATE::::: NEW ERROR: <!-- Database error in vBulletin 3.5.4: Invalid SQL: SELECT userid, username FROM vb_user WHERE vb_userid=62; MySQL Error : Unknown column 'vb_userid' in 'where clause' Error Number : 1054 |
you replaced the config.php with what original config.php file??? from a previuos back-up? or the default config.php that came with vBulletin?
|
evidently the backup, as its connecting to the database. :)
Other than viewing the admin, does the forum homepage work? and posting work? etc |

How about the file to change the theme to a different or default theme? Maybe if I set it back to default (not sure of the exact name) it may fix the problem? |
You are back to the original error.
TBH, trying to do this via the forum is going to be a waste of time, since you don't have the necessary knowledge to do what we are suggesting. If you want to PM me access details for your forum (an admin login and ftp access) I will see if I can quickly fix it for you. |
Paul, i PM'd you, do you think you could help at all?:)
|
Read the PM's I sent you. :)
