Hi vb coders and users,

After seeing this thread fail, I am in the process of taking the best features from MySpace, TagWorld, Bebo, and Facebook, designing a new hack from scratch.

Now... since I did open a contest for naming this script (and had some good prizes!) but the thread was deleted by an admin saying no contests are allowed here. So unfortunately for you guys, you'll just have to 'volunteer' name ideas for our hack without reward.

The naming period will close in 8-10 days and we will pick the best 10 and make a poll where everyone will have a chance to vote on their favorite.

*Update (July 14th): I have been PM'd twice reminding me that promotion of a commercial hack and starting a thread to discuss a commercial hack is forbidden on vb.org. So don't talk about pricing of the hack or where you can get it! (Details will be given later to anyone interested)

Hello Chad! Thanks for taking this on. I like "Advanced Personal Profiles" and I suggest "Interactive Personal Profiles."

We should avoid names that sound in any way related to Friendster or Myspace.

I suggest you don't have any reservations about making it a paid mod -- or at least posting a contribution link somewhere. I'd rather have a paid solution than none at all.

Thanks again for starting this and for giving an ETA as well. In real world production environments, time is of the essence and feedback is a good thing.

Hi Toolblast. I havent really voiced my thoughts on what should be needed cause they started off really well. I was following the other "vb solution" thread as well and see how you are persistant (sp), so I will mention what I think should be included in some way.

* Non centralized - ( sorry I had to say it )

* Updates - ( sorry another one of those things that have to be said )

* Friend Request - Person gets a PM saying "Toolblast" wants to be your friend, and the user has to accept or decline the request.

* Referred by - Person that referred the new member is automatically added the friends list and vice versa.

* Bulletins System - This will send a PM to everyones inbox. Or have a section in the profile of "Bulletin" Kind of like how a blog would be set up.

* Personal Blog - Which you already stated is included.

* User gallery - which you said it already included. Admin should be able to set how many pictures from 1 picture to 200 pictures... etc Other users should be able to leave comments on the pictures along with a date and time stamp. Person that is receiving the comment should have the option to turn off automatic posting of the messages that others post on their profile. Person recieving should have the ablilty to allow HTML messages or not. Person that is leaving the comment should have the ability to delete a comment that they have left someone else.

* Profile commenting - with a date and time stamp. Person that is receiving the comment should have the option to turn off automatic posting of the messages that others post on their profile. * Should have a section to input videos / and music. One should have the option to allow auto play of videos and music when viewing others profiles.

* You already mentioned the full CSS builder.

As for a name. No clue as of yet.. Ill do more thinking

Hi Friendly! Thanks for posting! I want to stay away from the word "interactive" because Psionic Vision already has a great hack called Interactive Profiles made already (www.visionscripts.com). It is great if you're wanting to add more advanced friends and commenting features to your profiles, but still lacks the ability to style the look and feel of your individual profile easily. A CSS box to insert CSS just doesn't do well for beginners that have no programming experience in css at all.

Agreed. Gio and I both agreed the name can not include: "ster" "space" "interactive" "gio" or "oints" in the name.

As for the names, i've seen some great suggestions so far. Remember that "interactive profiles" is already a hack and is already in use. And try to not use the word "gio" in the name, as it isn't just Gio's hack!

I have been PMed by a vb.org admin to remind me not to promote any commercial hacks or turn this into a discussion for a commercial hack.

So, I'm going to have to tell you guys to try and focus only on the name suggestions and if you have feature requests you'll have to email me or PM me separately. I need to keep this thread following the vb.org TOS as closely as possible and will not break them.

Open source and free hacks are terrific, however I think your comment is uncalled for especially given that it's a complete assumption thus far.
If these gentlemen spend time and money to create a hack that scores of people obviously want, I don't see why asking a few dollars for it should be such a big deal. Again, I'd rather pay a reasonable fee than see this project disappear.

This isn't meant to restart the paid or no paid argument. Some people can afford the time to create phenomenal hacks - God bless them - yet it would be a shame to exclude and demonize those who cannot afford the time to code free hacks. These are individuals, not huge corporations for crying out loud.

That said, it behooves Toolblast and Giologist to be upfront about what this hack will be so we'll know what to expect.

Sorry Smiry. I would really like to discuss this hack, get your feature list, thoughts, feedback, etc. but the rules at vb.org permit me from doing so.

I'm sorry but I fail to see how this thread is allowed. There are no discussions on paid modifications allowed on vBulletin.org. I started a thread about the lite version of one of my hacks that is coming up some weeks ago, and when asked by someone about the price of the commercial modification it was edited and I was warned. Now, you start a thread with the sole discussion of discussing a paid modification, which this is essentially is, and it's allowed to stand.

This is hypocritical, and this thread was created, as you very well know, with the sole purpose of creating hype about your paid modification. I suggest you rethink your marketing strategy until the hypocritical and subjective implementation of these rules is corrected by your superiors :)

You need to step back and take a very close look at what this thread was created for and then read over your last post again, since it was very uncalled for.

First, discussions about commercial threads are definately allowed on vb.org, however the rules state that the author of the commercial hack can not start a thread to promote his own hack. If you find a commercial hack that is great, you are allowed to start a thread to discuss it. In my case, this thread was NOT created to promote anything at all. Read the title "Name our hack". It is a thread to get ideas for a name of a hack I am working on. I am not promoting anything in the title, nor am I saying to buy a hack, where you can find it, etc.

No, it was not created for the sole purpose of gaining hype. If I wanted to gain hype I would have called the thread title "PROFILE HACK! GET IT NOW!" and then promoted it to death in the body of the thread. This, I did not do.

Again this was not really an attack aimed at you, but at the administration and staff due to their hypocritical implementation of their rules; as I, now, believe that there should be a place for threads like this on vBulletin.org.

Thanks Dean. I too wasn't trying to attack you in any way. I am only trying my best to follow the rules and protocols here at vb.org that make it extremely hard to discuss anything when commercialism may be involved.

I too agree with you that vb.org needs to have a thread to allow the promotion of commercial hacks. Not everything can be given away free when a lot of hard work is put into the development of it, and vbulletin license holders need to be able to go to a forum where they can freely see a forum with threads promoting commercial hacks. I know that in the past I have purchased many paid hacks before, and they were very helpful. The only reason I found out about them were from emails directly from the coders of the hacks. So, whats the harm? I don't know, but for now this is forbidden on vb.org and I need to respect that if I want to remain in this community.
