I think this would be a nice hack, and also it would be great if you could see a users buddylist in his profile.

seconded, wayne. :) I was gonna say I'd try to work on something like this, but it's too much of that.
|
Ok well a user can choose in options if they want to show their buddylist or not.
|
Why would anyone want to show their buddy list in public?
|
Also, I don't really see the point of requiring authorization.
Adding someone to your buddy list doesn't mean you can do any more relating to them than you can if you dont add them. Either way you can email, PM them etc. Perhaps in the future it could evolve into an option "only accept PMs from people on my buddy list" but I'm not sure that would be very appropriate either. |
I disagree with you JamesUS.
The point of the buddy list primarily is to see who is online right now among your friends. If I am on invisible mode, I might still agree that you, and only you, will know when I am online. Hence the authorisation. Just like requesting to add someone to your ICQ list. |
I can see the authorization part.. I just can't see showing your list off to everyone or providing the option.
|
ok wluke I wasn't talking about THAT, only responding to JamesUS.
The idea to publicly display users' buddy list in their profile sounds abhorrent to me personally. |
Well the reason for this is that im building a more of a community script and less forum, im customizing vbulletin so that it will be more talking to special friends and not in the usuall forum, for that im going to add guestbook for every user etc. So like i asked, can anybody do this?
|
What until Kier's PM hack comes out next week and see if you still need new features.
|
What will the hack do, which new feutures will be available with it?
|
He told me last night but I forgot most of it. Maybe he will see this and post.
|
What's the point of authorization? Not many people choose to be invisible on my boards (300 members) So someone choosing NOT to be invisible, and then not authorizing someone would be somewhat hypocritical? All a buddy list does, is show wether your online or not . . . . oh wait, so does the who's online?

when you register you have an option, either to be visible (anyone can add you to their buddy list/ anyone can see if you're online) or invisible (need authorisation to add you to their buddy list & see if you're online). Makes it more clear now? |
Well i finally figured out how to show a users buddys in his profile.
If anybody wants to know this then i can post it. |
Ok well if you dont like autorization, is it possible to get an automated private message when somone adds you to their list?

As for showing the users buddy list, I don't think its really appropriate. If it is an option then I guess it alittle bit better, but I don't really see much of a use for it. |
Well im trying to modify the script so it becomes like blackplanet.com and other community sites.
I've added the thing where you can see the users buddy list in the profile, and when someone adds you to their list u get a pm. But i still havent figured out how to get auhtorization. |
I am working towards the same goal, maybe we can help each other out. I am trying to add my buddylist to the profile also, but was unsuccesful so far.
I just recently installed part one of my hack on my forums. I think you may like. E-mail me and I will send you a URL. |
Contact me at 66871495 on icq and i can show u how to add the buddy list to the profile
