Transfer to New Host

how do i transfer to a new host?

i have all the files
and db backups

FTP the files up. Recreate the DB's. Restore the DB's. Recreate and mail accounts.

That should cover most of it.

It's the easiest to do the whole thing through ssh.

Here's the basic description:

1. Transfer files
2. Transfer DB
3. Restore DB
4. Edit config.php so that the info is updated

Look here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/moving_servers

ok thanks :)

but this is what i did

will it work?

1. Transfer Files
2. Restore DB
3. Edit config.php

also how do i transfer DB?

Upload the files and folders to the new server including the config.php
Run the installation (www. your site.com/forums/install/install.php
Run restore via cPanel

Should work that way!

Transferring of the DB will happen when you do the backup of the old site and restore it to the new one.

I have a similar issue, but it is not working, did the install, changed styles, cause I was sick of the old, but how do I get my old posts over?

Marco van Herwaarden 06-21-2006 01:56 PM

If you have restored your old database, then you should still have all your posts.

i dont work... how long does it take to restore a database in Cpanel?

would anyone with a reputation higher than "coder" care to help me?

such as a staff member ? please :(

Marco van Herwaarden 06-21-2006 07:43 PM

Depending on the size of your database, i wouldn't suggest a webbased backup / restore method. If you have shell access, then i strongly recommend you use that.

For more information on backup and restore please see the following parts of the manual:
Moving Servers
Backing-up your MySQL Database Manually
Restoring your MySQL Database Manually
