vBLightbox

Hack Support

This hack is now discontinued - this means that while it will remain available for download and use, there will be no further updates, nor will support be provided as the thread is no longer monitored.

Please click Mark as Installed if you are using this hack.

NOTE: I have marked this hack as Re-usable Code - This means that code from this hack may be used in other hacks, which can ONLY be released on official vB sites that use Jelsoft's verification system to verify your vBulletin license status, and as long as I am credited in your hack.

NOTE 2: The now obsolete vBLightbox for v3.6.x is available here.

vBulletin Version Compatibility

This hack has be tested with v3.5.8. This has not been tested with earlier versions, but should work.

What Does This Hack Do?

vBLightbox is based on a script by Lokesh Dhakar from http://www.huddletogether.com/, the script I am using is available here.

This hack integrates the script in with vBulletin and uses a BBCode (in this case my custom IMGW tag) to display a full size overlay picture with a nice expanding image of a reduced size picture.

The Demo has now been removed, as I do not have this hack installed any more.

This is NOT the same hack that Ntfu2 has posted here. His differs from mine as his has file edits and affects attachments.

My hack concerns images posted using my custom version of the IMG tag and has no file edits at all.

I hope you enjoy this hack as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

Known Issues

The AJAX Quick Edit does not work with this hack installed.

Installation Instructions

Download the zip file, unzip and follow the instructions.

As every one does this.

I will reserve the first post for future comments :D

Added Screen Shots (but please view the demo (see above post) instead, as screen shots do not do this modification justice):

Allan 06-08-2006 04:10 PM

Screens please ^^

Phlex 06-08-2006 04:16 PM

wow thats great ,but u should fix the problem with quick edit

Mosh 06-08-2006 04:16 PM

Allan, check the original post for the demo - it speaks 1000 words over screen shots. But I will do some for you if you want :)

Works in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera browsers.

EDIT: Added Screen Shots.

Ntfu2 06-08-2006 05:13 PM

Cool, good job getting it to work with the [img] tag

Yes, thanks for add ;)

lasto 06-08-2006 07:02 PM

thanks sounds good

would`nt like this for every pic on me forum but is it possible to just have this for one set forum.

utw-Mephisto 06-08-2006 07:03 PM

Does not seem to work for me, I get this until I close the browser :

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

edit : And it seems to work only once .. now it openes for me just in a new browser window ...

Using IE btw .. (On test PC with Windows 2000)

bashy 06-08-2006 07:19 PM

This has already been posted has it not...well its installed on my forum..
Think it was a couple of weeks ago....

Anyway, perhaps it will improve searching for stuff ;)

Thanks for the hack

Tralala 06-08-2006 08:05 PM

Very nice! The screenshots in the 2nd post don't really do this hack justice, as it's of a post composition screen (and will therefore confuse folks.) Trying the demo is much more impressive. I'd suggest changing the screenshots to an actual photo.jpg or something like that.

Thanks for sharing!

It does not do it for every picture, it is only when you use my IMGW tag that you get the effect. The image in this case has to be wider than 640 pixels for it to be of any use.

At this time, it does not cater for which forum it is valid in.

Have you followed the instructions exactly? As it seems the script is not being called when the SHOWTHREAD template is called and that is what happens when the script is not called. Also the page needs to fully load before the image is clicked.

Thanks for the hack

Please read the first post again, because it clearly states that this is not the same as the other one released.

Thanks for that :)

It was Allan who asked for screen shots. The demo is a lot more effective which is why I did not post screenshots in the first place.

Thanks man, much appriciated :)

I did not find out about your version until yesterday when I did a search before putting this modification up.

It was different enough in focus for me to publish this here, I had not even heard about lightbox until last week when a member requested I add it to my site, hence the production of vBLightbox. I like your version as well by the way :)

Hornstar 06-08-2006 10:43 PM

you need to make the close button more easy to see, I almost closed the page, as I didnt see the close button, and thought it must have opened in a new window.

Make it up the top as well, and say, Return to Page

or something.

The actual script itself has not been altered (and will not be because I do not know a hell of a lot about javascript).

I have only integrated it into vBulletin and I am only supporting my integration (as stated in the first post) and not the original script, for support for the script itself please go here - http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/

Do you have a url so that I can add it to the list of demo sites?

utw-Mephisto 06-12-2006 08:26 AM

We had a problem on our site which caused a small java error .. when the vbulletin.com staff checked we found out that the error is caused by a recently uploaded product ..

We disabled one by one and it was caused by this one ...

This is the error :

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

You (or we at least) get the error when quick edit a post and save it .. when you refresh, the change is still visible or you go to advanced and save then ..

We had to uninstall for now

This error was already highlighted when I posted the modification, I already know about it. It is also in the instructions -

If you read the first post also, it says that it is a known error. All Lightbox modifications here will have the same problem, as there is some conflict between the javascript in vBulletin and Lightbox.

Unless someone can come up with a fix for this, then it will stay an known problem, as I am not crash hot at Javascripting.

Let me think about an excuse that I did not read it

It is those sorts of comments that make coders here not want to provide support for their modifications. If you can not be bothered to read the instructions at all, then why should I even try to provide support to you???

To others who need support for my modifications, please read and follow the instructions before posting here for support (also ensure you have clicked Install, as I will not support people who have not).

d8tabyte 06-13-2006 02:47 AM

Ok so I just installed this - all I keep getting is a box that when I click opens the image, but nothing fancy

Click on the image to view the full size picture
Click on the image to view the full size picture

thats all I get. No image -until I click and then it just opens a window to view the image....

edit:

Are you aware that the XML in the zip is "product-ibproarcade.xml"

edit:

You have your products wrong, the xml in the zip is "product-jd20060608.xml" (I just downloaded the zip myself to confirm), you have your products mixed up, no wonder you have a problem, please try using the correct product, and it should sort your problem out. Download the zip again just to be on the safe side and unzip in a new location away from everything else.

d8tabyte 06-13-2006 02:48 PM

lol alright - I knew something was up when I saw that, I'll edit when I get it sorted.

d8tabyte 06-13-2006 02:59 PM

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

downloaded zip - Re-uploaded all - uninstalled product/re-installed. Quick edit is off - bb code is set - imgw

thats what I got.

If you can set me up with a temp admin account on your forum, will have a look for you, send me a PM if you want me to look at it for you. Either that or if you are uncomfortable with that, then do a test in a public part of your forums, so that I can look at the source code.

Mythotical 06-25-2006 09:03 PM

ATTENTION: Since jdsinclair left it open, I am on the verge of getting the quick edit issue fixed, once I have it fixed, I will provide my fix in this thread. Stay tuned as it might take a bit. I'm not javascript savvy but I'm gonna try.

Mythotical 06-25-2006 11:14 PM

Ok the problem comes up with the img bbcode so honestly, there is no way around it. Sorry all.

Thanks for having a go at fixing it :)

It was more than I could do with it.

GrendelKhan{TSU 06-28-2006 03:51 AM

hmm.. looks great but worried about the quick edit issue. I use that a lot.

I forget.... how does one edit a post WITHOUT the quick edit? if its not toooooo inconvenient I may forgoe it for this. ;)
