Online ETA

Online ETA v1.0
[/high]
So what's the deal with making this hack?
Well vBulletin.org was offline, and Brad's closed message inspired me to code something that would aid an admin during board offline time. And thus, I bring you, Online ETA v1.0!

So what in the world IS this thing?
It's a small countdown script that works off an AdminCP setting where you input a number (in minutes) until which you expect the board to come back online.
Note: This figure will not update every time you save your AdminCP settings. In order to reset/change the countdown, you must change the value of the countdown. This applies even if you turn your board back on then off again at a later point.
The hack's counter will then add itself to the bottom of the "Reason for turning forum offline" setting when it's being displayed to the users.

What's the skinny on this hack? What will it be doing to my forums?
  • File Changes: 0
  • Template Changes: 0
  • Tables Added: 0
  • Tables Altered: 1
  • SQL Queries Added: 1 (only when the Board Offline message needs to be displayed)
As you can see, it won't add much load to your forums, so you are perfectly safe using this mod :)

Why should I use this mod?
Maybe you want to close your board and not force users to convert the timezones themselves.
Maybe you want to let users quickly figure out a rough estimate of how long until the board comes back online.
Or maybe you are feeling nice and want to increase my ego by giving me more install clicks ;)

So how do I get this up and running?
Simple :)
Extract the zip, import the product through the AdminCP.
You are done :)
I would advise you to read either all of this post or the "Note:" section in the header of the readme file, as it contains useful information.

Will you add feature x?
Maybe :p
Post it and I will try to get back to you when I have the time.

Whoops, I need some help! Can you help?
I will try to, but I can't promise rapid replies because of time restrains. I don't see how this mod could require any support, but if your forums should self-destruct for no apparent reason, I will get back to you when I have the time :)

Revan, you rock! All My Money Are Belong To You.
I don't require donations, but they are most appreciated :)

I don't have PayPal but I would like to show my support, what can I do?
Leave a nice message saying thanks and a click of the install button. Yep, that should do the trick :)

Nice hack.
If you enter 30 hours, how is it represented?
Does is show up as 30 hours or 1 day, 6 hours?
Can you make it say the number of days?
When it goes over, can you make the counter go up in a red?

Revan 06-04-2006 05:30 PM

If you enter 1800 (as the input is in minutes, not hours) IIRC, it will show up as 30 hours.
I could make it show days, I didn't see the need to since I didnt figure people to leave their board closed for days :p
Ill look into doing that counter increase but it will have to wait, pressed for time these days.

Thank you Revan

This is really cool - great idea :D

Silly question from me but would be nice: is there anyway to have it counting
down in real time not just on refresh?

Thanks again great!

Install :)

Revan 06-06-2006 08:24 AM

I have a script that does similar to that, only it counts up. At some point Ill mod it to work with this, but for now I have a burst of motivation to work on my RPG so I will go do that now.
I won't abandon this hack tho, don't worry :)

And to the rest: Thanks for the nice comments :)
