vBulletin 3.6 running on vBulletin.com

Welcome to the first public look at vBulletin 3.6 at vBulletin.com!

This is the first of a number of posts we will be making over the coming week introducing you to what's new in this new version of vBulletin.

Take some time to wander around the forums and you'll find new features and useful changes throughout the system. Of course, you won't be able to see everything until you play with it as an administrator and there is far too much to squeeze into a single announcement, so we'll be posting new information daily. Be sure to check back each day for an update!

Let's start with an important change...

System Requirements
vBulletin 3.6 now requires PHP 4.3.3 or later and MySQL 4.0.16 or later. These minimum versions are still several years old, so the vast majority of people should still meet the requirements. Check the main page of your admin control panel if you're not sure what versions of PHP and MySQL are on your server!

Check out the original thread for more information and an extensive feature list being released daily.

not here at .org sweetie, it's over on .com

Wayne, you might want to add this to your original post above. It does make it sound like .org is running 3.6

Wayne Luke 06-02-2006 05:00 PM

Changed the bold letters to include that.

Logikos 06-02-2006 05:23 PM

I think I just soiled my pants :p A lot of nice features that were previously only available as plugins/hacks I use on a number of my sites will now be standard features. This is going to make things, so much easier :D

zell_11 06-02-2006 08:02 PM

I can't wait for this, Some nice new features that Vbulletin needs and they are adding them. Can't wait for it's release

Dez_U 06-02-2006 08:31 PM

Ohiosweetheart 06-02-2006 09:28 PM

That's not even all the new features... there's one or two more days of additional feature announcements ;)

I have also done my fair share of pants pooping. Since this site if FULL of coding masters, does anyone know about upgrading from 3.5.4 to 3.6 with installed hacks and modified templates?

Will one have to reinstall them all like we did from vB3.0 -> vB3.5?

Stop 06-02-2006 11:24 PM

Can hardly wait to use this powerful new vBulletin.

stonyarc 06-02-2006 11:34 PM

Is this a major feature release?

In a sense that it will impact our mods in a big way or are the core functions more or less the same (plugin/hook/vars)?

Ntfu2 06-02-2006 11:55 PM

crap, i just checked my PM's there and someone asked for access to a CCbill account so they could integreate it. To bad that was 3+ months ago and is probably useless now ;)

It depends on how extensive the code changes are - From what I can gather it's going to be a pretty major upgrade, so I would assume that the majority of 3.5.X mods/plugins are going to have to be overhauled before they can be used with 3.6.

Boofo 06-03-2006 12:32 AM

I'm not sure as it is so much as new code as new enhancements added, isn't it?

Andrew 06-03-2006 12:34 AM

It depends if what they've shown us so far is all that they've added - My assumption was based partly on the fact that they made such a jump in version numbers. If it were just a bunch of minor enhancements, I would have expected just a 3.5.5 or something. It seems that in the past, the big version jumps have brought about fairly large changes in the code.

Boofo 06-03-2006 12:49 AM

Hopefully they won't make any major code changes until 4.0. Updating hacks all the time can get tiresome. ;)

Amen Zues. Hopefully the upgrade won't be too harsh on the hacks.

I would doubt that the code changes will be too significant otherwise it would have been 4.0 and not another branch of the 3 series

All the best hacks too. Upgrading for me is going to need some serious de-hacking as everything they have added I have installed as a hack.

davidw 06-04-2006 01:06 PM

/me wonders if the best route would be to uninstall my present hacks prior to installing 3.6 when it arrives (for best upgrade). This is looking great!

Billspaintball 06-05-2006 12:48 AM

It has a few things Im very keen on :)

- Infraction system
- Multi quote
- Options backup and restore (might save me reinstalling my test forum regularly)
- Signature permissions

A lot of the rest looks very good too :D

But more than anything they have improved I want hooks in templates....
Please.....

Bison 06-05-2006 03:05 AM

If they keep this up, there won't be a need for most of the hackers & hacks here.

Ohiosweetheart 06-05-2006 03:53 AM

That will never be the case ;)

Now isn't there a famous quote about the world will only ever need seven computers or something like that? :)

I'm sure there will still be great features and ideas that the mod coders will come up with.

Ohiosweetheart 06-05-2006 10:50 AM

No feature update today yet...... :(

loonytune15 06-05-2006 12:54 PM

I hope they include the option of whether a individual style can be postbit or postbit legacy, also include a shoutbox.

Still its looking way cool.
