A vBSpace solution

I know myself I am in need of one, and willing to code one. (for local hosted)

So unless someone else wants to jump on this (as a free local solution) I will be working on one.

With luck it would be nice if a few joined in and worked together.

Ps. This thread is not to discuss other options that may be coming out, this is about a local solution for what many have been waiting for (to be released on vb.org.)

Today I have been working on the framework for the database of it.

Edited to add:We do not want to talk donations, money or about the other add on that was to be out...... please keep it on the topic. Thanks.

Stangsta 06-01-2006 08:57 PM

We already have my myspace hack.....I have plans to build on it and turn it into a product and EASY for the end user (admin) to configure with modules. I have a team ready to work on it ;)

SuperFly 06-01-2006 09:13 PM

I have rebuilt the usercp, and was in works of a plugin to add it and possibly more....so im in.

Maybe as an addon module as opposed to default? People like myself either have no need for the usercp hack OR want it to do something else.

True, but on top of that, i have some ideas and some small myspace type projects i was looking into like searching - special music band section and others...not gonna say all as im too.....yep said too much

Whatever the ideas, remember to keep them simple and user friendly. We dont want it to be a duplicate of myspace, but we want it to have the features and more.

Basically the user friendly front of Vbulletin, but more features and customization like Myspace.

rabidkevin 06-01-2006 09:43 PM

i support this collaboration!! lets see a simple, to the point, feature rich product that we can install in to our current VB systems! If we need a donation pool for you folks to work on this, just lemme know where and how much :)

Shaliza 06-01-2006 09:45 PM

I'm interested in this. I don't think it should be a myspace clone either, but more like an advanceed version of vB.

vBintense 06-01-2006 09:46 PM

Well , at this time it seems there will be 2 projects going lol

ericgtr 06-01-2006 09:47 PM

I don't see any reason this can't be implemented as well. Stangsta, your mod is nice (I've even installed it) but it requires a long time to install and integrates a bunch of other mods that I didn't necessarily want to install. At this point, it's not very simple.

Ideally, you guys could work together on this project, who knows what the possibilities are when you get all these great ideas under one umbrella. Either way I look forward to this. :)

You are right, it is a cumbersome install. Version 2 will have an EASY install. And will give you options of which modules you want to use via radio buttons the adminCP. This way, you can pick and choose the options that you want the users to have.

Im all for working with a team of professionals who are serious about working on this project and have the experience necessary to bring together a quality product where everyone wins.

vBintense 06-01-2006 09:55 PM

What is the ETA on yours ? Mine I have hopes of some beta in a week.

Krahl 06-01-2006 10:00 PM

Speaking as solely an end user, I would love to see a primary modification which could then have EASY TO INSTALL modules. Along the lines of how vBadvanced CMPS works.

If everyone who is planning to do something "myspace'ish" could work together to build a basic engine that would have hooks for future modules, that would seem to be the best of all worlds.

Regardless, I would like to sincerely thank those of you who are moving this forward for the community.

Im not going to provide an ETA. No need to raise false hopes on deadlines. Not to mention the amount of features that I plan on implimenting will take more than a week to have a beta. Good luck.

If you want to work together, we can do that too. I just want the community to get what they want, Im not concerned about fame or $$$.

I have a few ideas that have not been mentioned, but those would take some time :) .

As for all working together , unless it happens soon there will be 2.

After all the wait and disappointment with original VBspace i will be giving a generous donation to person/team releasing a standalone version. :D

KevNJ 06-01-2006 11:32 PM

If I knew more php Id gladly help, so whomever's product I go with will have to deal with a donation instead of me helping, I hope you understand. LOL

I was actually thinking about doing this myself and i believe i will be starting tomorrow. Me and ChrisM were discussing the topic and how it's not so hard at all really and how it shouldn't take this long for a vbspace (no offense, i'm sure it's a great product). However, seeing as there is a great deal of commotion with vbspace, he just asked me to go ahead and make one. Not wanting to step on anyone's toes here. However, it just seems like the easiest thing to do. I actually did something like this with 3.0.x and sold 66% of the site shares. However, if i do proceed tomorrow, it will be a script. Most likely i will have a light and premium.

vBintense 06-02-2006 12:16 AM

I am glad others plan to as well, mine shall be free when done. After all the drama of the other one I think the community deserves it.

That would be a great idea, I'll second you :)

Stangsta 06-02-2006 01:30 AM

Well, Like I said before. I am open to a Joint project, I want this to be a FREE product for the community. If anyone is interested in working with me or having me work with them, feel free to PM me.

vBintense 06-02-2006 01:34 AM

Sent you a pm.

Well, with all honesty.. At the end of the day, we all have bills to pay right? Giving back to this community is a great thing and is something i've always done, which is why the light version will be there and have everything needed if i pursue with this.

I was reffering to your project and vBinstense's one, lol, but yeah, I totally understand.

Heck if you didn't make a premium version, I would still pay you :)

But never will i release a half done light version which no one will like, that's a promise.

The community is kind of jilted at the moment. You should put your pocket aside for this one, that would be the right thing to do. I understand you will offer a "lite" version, but c'mon....these people deserve more on this one. Maybe charge for a different hack....but this one the people deserve, and for free.

vBintense 06-02-2006 02:01 AM

Right now I am exchanging PMs with stangsta.

And the reason I would not work with gio or him with I, I would think is due to each's thoughts on where want to go with it. He wants to have a premium to profit, which you can not fault him for.

Where I just want totally free for the community who has been thru enough over this add on.

Ah, i personally do not know vBintense well, nor has he contacted me. "I am glad others plan to as well, mine shall be free when done. After all the drama of the other one I think the community deserves it." He sounds like he's up for the two different projects, i don't mind to much.

amykhar 06-02-2006 02:07 AM

It looks pretty dopic the way I had to do it, but I zapped a developer's references to a possible commercial mod in a thread. As was stated earlier, promotion of forthcoming commerical or paid modifications is not allowed.

If you need the rules clarified about how you ARE allowed to promote your work, please pm me.

Now, back on topic - guys, the discussion in this thread looks great and I'm really excited that you're going to be working on it for the community. That's impressive and appreciated. Heck, I don't even know if my site will be using it or not, but I'm thankful you're community-spirited enough to really get moving on this so quickly in the wake of all the disappointment. Kudos!

When vB 3.5.0 was firsted released, I started to code a vBSpace like project. I never got around to finishing it. I don't plan on doing it either, but here is a screenshot of what a vBulletin site could look like. This could maybe help with ideas.

Interesting, thanks for that.

Now to that we add a gallery, comments and a blog, and were settled ;)
