How fast is your computer?

How fast does your processor run at?

Mine is rated at 2.6 GHz. :)

Sean S 05-20-2006 05:26 PM

mine is 3.40 GHz :)

Zachariah 05-20-2006 05:31 PM

as fast as the operator ?

Sean S 05-20-2006 05:35 PM

I guess so, this is what it says on the comp info,

"Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
3.39 GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM"

it should really be 4 GB of RAM but not sure what happened :D, lol not so knowledgable in this technical stuff.

Dan 05-20-2006 05:38 PM

Running a Pentium 4 2.4ghz here.

Protoman 05-20-2006 06:11 PM

2.4GHz, I went with ghz instead of PR3700+

JohnBee 05-20-2006 06:14 PM

Mine is so fast that when I scroll down a page with the arrow key, I can't even read the text.. its so fast

sometimes I think its just to fast

Boofo 05-20-2006 06:41 PM

P4 2.8 GHZ with a sliding roll-bar

lasto 05-20-2006 07:03 PM

4 ghtz here but its not how fast the comp is - its should be how fast is it running once u add your crappy OS.
Once that is added the speed drops to about 3/4.
Then u add some crap programs and you done to about half your normal speed.
Now take into your hard drive lagging behind because u spent half an hour on the internet and your cache is full then your comp goes slow as a nail.

Chroder 05-20-2006 07:17 PM

Gotta P4 3.4 on the mainbox, but an AMD 64 X2 4800 on the server box (with lots and lots of RAM for those greedy MySQL databases :D)

Boofo 05-21-2006 03:52 AM

You guys are really starting to piss me off and...

Oops! Wrong window, sorry.

Marco van Herwaarden 05-21-2006 08:55 AM

Currently: 500MHz with 192Mb memory. :(

Zachery 05-21-2006 09:44 AM

Speed isn't everything, my 1.8ghz AMD 64 makes my P4 3.06 look like a snail.

Gaskell 05-21-2006 10:55 AM

Celeron 2.4GHz on an Acer laptop here (no PC). Need more RAM for it though!

filburt1 05-21-2006 03:32 PM

P4 2.6: Main Desktop
PM 1.5: Tablet PC
Celeron 2.53: Home dedicated testing server

And its about as fast as a dead slug....i really need an upgrade :(
All donations gratefully received :)

Is there a great difference with a 64bit if so are all software backwards compatiable?

T.S. 05-22-2006 08:07 AM

Athlon XP-M 2500+ running at 2675 Mhz (214x12.5)

joeboo 05-24-2006 06:00 AM

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ @ 2.01 Ghz with 2GB of RAM

It makes a P4 at 3.5ghz look like super crap.

Yes, but how much software did you have to give up to use it? A lot of software won't run on that yet, or run right anyway.

creedmaniac 05-24-2006 08:05 AM

just came in the mail two days ago (wife told me...:(...i'm in the desert so don't get to use it for another four months../cry)

3.73GHz Dual Core Intel Pentium D Extreme Edition 965 (with 2x2mb cache), 4gigs of corsair high performance ram, and 5 500gb disk drives (4 in raid 5...1 backup)

i think that should be a good upgrade from my pentium 3...

Im actually not running on 64bit. Not until Vista. So far, everything has run flawlessly, I do a lot of graphic design and usually have Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator open at the same time, so its a charm for multi-task. As for gaming, well, I think Oblivion is the only game out there that will take control of dual processors, but practically all the future games will handle dual core. Games like Ghost Recon and Battlefield need to be run on one Core, however.

Dual Core and 64bit isnt there yet, but I give it a few more months, maybe by the end of this year. But for now, everything runs super fast and super good, so I cant complain. I think this is the time when everyone is upgrading, lots of specials and deals out there.

I'm still running a P4 2.8, but have thought about upgrading numerous times. I may do it here in a few months. I kind of want to wait and see what happens with the dual core technology. I think it'll move further and faster than anyone thought it would. It'll be interesting to follow it. ;)

On my AMD X2 x64 I just run CentOS x64 bit server :D

Zachery 05-25-2006 07:16 AM

Its not that dual core processors are not there yet, its that most OS's and programs are not taking full advantage of multiple processors.

deathemperor 05-25-2006 08:31 AM

mine 2.4Ghz 1280MB RAM
