Admin Log In As User

Admin Log In As User 1.2

About this hack:
This hack allows a SUPER ADMIN (settings in your config file) to log in as any user. You have to go to the user's profile page and there will be a link to 'Log In As This User'. Also, there is a link the drop down menu in the ACP User Manager. If you are logged in as another user, you will get a message on top of the forum saying, 'You are currently logged in as another user. Click here to log back into your account.'

This hack is very easy to install. This hack has NO options. Just install and it's ready to be used!

Any way to get this to have a link in the Admin CP like the old version did? ;)

Well I didn't make this as a port. I use a totally differant way to log in. I totally wrote this hack from scratch, but, if you want the link in the acp, I'll try to add it now.

DementedMindz 05-12-2006 04:03 AM

yeah that would be nice from admincp as i use the myspace profile and i dont think it would work like it is now..

sensimilla 05-12-2006 04:48 AM

very useful thing, top work thanks alot.

Cal813 05-12-2006 05:39 AM

Wow nice hack mate :) I was looking for this ;)

FreshFroot 05-12-2006 05:51 AM

hmmm odd, I tried it out, however it doesn't do anything for me. I see the link, but when I click it nothing happens? Basically the page reload's itself.

EDIT: It works only when I go into the ACP and use the log as user, however on the memberinfo it doesn't work.

Scooterpig 05-12-2006 06:41 AM

Excellent hack and well done and thank you..:)

Any way of editing the message at top of the forum to be bold and/or different color please?

gonkowonko 05-12-2006 06:49 AM

I didn't mean to infer that this was a port. I was only stating "like that old version" so you would understand exactly what I meant. I apologize for the confusion and thank you, sir, for fulfilling my request. ;)

projectego 05-12-2006 08:11 AM

Awesome hack, cheers. ;)

Kihon Kata 05-12-2006 10:23 AM

Great hack...installed! Is there a way to NOT record your IP address if you login as a user? I sometimes would like to remain anonymous when I login as them.

I've noticed though ... as soon as you become that member you lose your admin privileges and need to log back into your super admin account to do anything.

Still, this is going to prove very useful

No idea why. I would have to look at your account.

You can edit the phrase or the template edit to header.

Yes, you have to log out as that user, and then you will get ACP rights with-out even logging in.

I didn't do any fancy things yet. They hack just totally logs you in as another user.

This sounds like a great option however, aren't there concerns of privacy here? Such as reading personal PM, etc.

AzzidReign 05-12-2006 01:02 PM

This is awesome...time to spy on the members that are trying to make evil plans...

That's not my problem HOW you use this hack.

Anyways, besides this hack, there are many other ways to read someone else's PMs. 1) There is a hcak out there that reading someone's PM is the main function. 2) Use phpmysql and look at the PM table.

Also, PM stands for Private Message, but Private as to you only, not a post. But not totally private, admins can always see what is in them by looking in the database. All users should know that already.

Smiry Kin's 05-12-2006 01:28 PM

possible to make this work for only "SUPER ADMINS"? please?

COBRAws 05-12-2006 01:29 PM

Are the "user" last online and new posts updated if we login as him?

thanks

I believe so but not 100% sure. Check for your self and let me know.

MentaL 05-12-2006 02:00 PM

amazing, but doesnt work for me, i click log into this user and just keeps me logged in.

GTAce 05-12-2006 04:15 PM

Great mod. The only thing that concerns me is the question brought up in post #24

I'd install this in a heartbeat, the only thing from stopping me would be a cookies issue...I don't want to log in as another user and mark any posts as read. If you could somehow prevent that, I might give you a big fat kiss :)

To prevent this, make sure you use the setting that doesn't mark posts read until you actually read them.

Any way I can check your site? I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.

I have the same problem.... I think it has to do with vbSEO if you have it installed. The reason is when I click on the log into user on member profile, the vbSEO shows the url http://www.yourforumname.com/members...susername.html

Therefore it won't work that way, unless you can work another way out? It works great from the ACP though :)

FreshFroot 05-12-2006 07:22 PM

Also too add to a few members comments here.

As far as I know, it doesn't log your IP.... I logged in as the user, checked IP and mines never showed up, however!!! if you post with that account, I believe it will show up then.

Also for things like who was online today.... it will show them online if you logged into their account.... just thought I'd let everyone know.

This hack is great, especially when my members sometimes forget pass, or when I want to use my test bot user and don't want to go back and forth logining in and out.....

It shows them online but I'm not sure to everyone else. I know as soon as you log back to your account, it doesn't say they are still logged in.

Whoah thanks for getting this done ;)

I use vbseo and it doesnt work from profile, only via admincp.

Well, that would solve the logging in as a user problem, but it would really mess up regular browsing. I know that from a member's perspective, when I visit another forum, I'll view new posts (just a list of them)...I'll pass over all of the titles that obviously don't interest me and read the rest. When I visit next time, I don't want to see those posts that I passed over last time...they need to be marked as read. So, that's not really a good overall solution.

If you can't get around this, that's fine, I don't have to have the mod installed, it would just be really really good if I could and avoid this one problem.

C_P 05-13-2006 12:34 AM

Abe1 as always, what an incredible addon! Your mods are not hacks to me, they are great works of art! Good job bud!

I was wondering the same thing.... anyway around it?

Hornstar 05-13-2006 09:57 AM

If I dont do any of the template edits, so only I want to have the ability, not the other super admins, that way if I want to log in as another user, What would I have to type in to do this, If I i only import the product

Thanks
