Now Playing Hack

Okay, here's the deal. I want to write a 'now playing' hack for vBulletin that would add your current song playing in WinAmp, Windows Media Player, iTunes, etc...

It would allow you to add the song to a number of different places - a tooltip in who's online, a seperate forumhome box below who's online, in the users public profile, your choice.

It might have some other features too such as an amazon buy link.

The thing is, to do this I'll have to write plugins for all those media players on top of the hack for vBulletin. And I'm not going through all that work for a couple dozen installs.

So, if the poll hits 200 I'll write the hack.

The Chief 05-03-2006 08:31 PM

write it, and i'll install :)

peterska2 05-03-2006 08:54 PM

I'm interested. Will probably install especially if it works for multi players.

kurtbarker 05-03-2006 09:40 PM

hey mate, awesome idea

as long as we can select in the ACP where we want this active. So if I only want it shown in the users profile, then have that selected and not the others, etc... Multiple Players is a must. And with the Amazon link, if we can disable that, then i'm installing :D

7 yes votes in 90 minutes, you'll be writing with hack in no time ;)

It would be fully configurable. You could have it display in any or all of the places I described. And if I did the buy link it would definately be optional and configurable.

Ghostsuit 05-03-2006 10:56 PM

Sounds like a cracking idea.

Tralala 05-11-2006 04:02 PM

Would love to be able to click to buy the single in iTunes as well. This hack sounds like an INCREDIBLE idea!

Metal-R-US 05-15-2006 08:18 AM

I'd even be happy with a now playing hack which needs manual entries like this 3.0.x one: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=59538

tipoboy 05-15-2006 05:16 PM

i'd defo install

KevNJ 05-18-2006 10:33 AM

Great idea... so um... did you start coding yet ?! ;)

hambil 05-18-2006 02:02 PM

Only 183 yes votes to go, and I'll start coding ;)

Adrian Schneider 05-18-2006 02:33 PM

Get it to work in foobar and I'll install it.

akanevsky 05-18-2006 07:06 PM

If it extracts winamp song automatically - yes. Else - waste of time.

Chris M 05-29-2006 09:13 PM

Thats the idea :)

Chris

300USD way too much for my currency exchange :( that would be like 900USD basically.

anyway, just 150 votes needed :P

waza 05-31-2006 07:24 PM

Is this even possible?

Tacama 05-31-2006 07:25 PM

I'll sure install it. I'll have the chance to delete that old free - spam post of What are you listening right now? he he

Great Idea.

Yes. Winamp, Windows Media Player, Foobar, etc... all have plugin APIs.

COBRAws 06-01-2006 10:07 AM

Kinneas 06-01-2006 12:14 PM

Don't forget iTunes. Or OS X.

mightyb 06-03-2006 04:05 PM

A long way to go still... How about you start making it now and by the time you finish we will have 200 votes :D

COBRAws 06-03-2006 04:59 PM

I would still pay for it

-=Sniper=- 06-03-2006 08:22 PM

have you guys tried this hack https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=82779 ? I just tried it on localhost and it seems to work quite well.

Nah, but if we hit 100 I might start considering some design work :)

Well I think 61 yes votes is a good starting point, don't you thin? :)

COBRAws 06-13-2006 07:58 PM

We are getting there!

COBRAws 06-28-2006 10:18 PM

bump :(

Lizard King 06-29-2006 06:05 AM

I will install this one also but i cannot understand the mentality who askes for 200 votes. If you want to write it then write it why pushing people vote for you.

jimbocook 06-29-2006 12:52 PM

I help my son admin and an seo forum (seorefugee.com) and, for some reason we keep straying off into discussions of music (mostly 60s and 70s rock). I'd love to be able to add this to our "off topic" area. Plus it would be great to have a hack that could display"random user is listening tosome song" at the top of the page.

Pedro! 06-29-2006 04:03 PM

I'd deffinately install this. I guess the users would be able to disable it, right?

Murty 07-03-2006 02:15 AM

*BUMP* this thread! cmon guys, get behind this!

Mythotical 07-03-2006 02:21 AM

I'm game
