VBGooglemap Hotspot Edition 1.0.4
I'm proud to announce that the Hotspot Edition is currently available to you all !!!

Function
The vbgooglemap Hotspot Edition is a design from StonyArc (http://www.stonyarc.com). It allows you to create and maintain a whole range of elements like landmarks, places to visit or even people. The application is fully manageable from the control panels. Each specific category can have a specific colour code. The configuration is done by the administrator. He or she can edit/approve/add catogories name it, it's there.
Clicking on a marker will open a small balloon with some essential elements for that spot and an image in the second tab. For each marker on the map there is also a full details page including support for the vbulletin full editor (wysiwyg) so additional information and images can be added.

Use the menus to navigate through all the functions.

Vbgooglemap Hotspot Edition is ideal for handling landmarks, travel, events or even giving your users their own page.

Don't forget to hit install !!!!!!!

yinyang 04-26-2006 08:19 PM

awesome!

is there any way to join this with your VBGooglemap mod? perhaps different color
pin for the hot spots, etc.

caliman 04-26-2006 08:24 PM

Related does this use a different map than the member map? In other words... can I keep them separate... a member map and an events map? That would be sweet.

It is build to work next to eachother

You can use both at the same time without any issues normally.

Your googlemap key will function in both too.

You can even turn this hotspot edition in a personal page thingy for your users.

There is wysiwyg support build in

Make sure you upload all the files in the upload folder also you can do a full refresh for the page (it uses frames)

bitfield_vbgooglemap.xml
cpnav_vbgooglemaphse.xml

have to be in the includes/xml folder

admin/index.php?do=buildbitfields can help too but first check the above.

Do you have to know the lattitude and longitude of everything you want to add?

not really,

You can click it on a city, landmark nearby the event or location or whatever.

You are free in that regard. Just click the small map when entering the data it will center on that location.

All,

Don't forget you can create your own extra categories in the admincp.
I preloaded 18 colours so you can go all the way.

limey 04-26-2006 10:16 PM

First of all I think this will be great.

Second why can't I add this to my database:
Your full text could not be added into the database because one or more fields blank were left blank. Please make sure you have enter all required information.
Return to previous page

Why should a location require a date? Does the date need to be in a special format? Plus I don't know why it won't accept my data as its perfectly ok. I'm pulling the long-lat numbers from google maps.

The marker text, the title and full text are mandatory fields. The lat and lng are filled in by the map or by setting the marker to a specific location. The date field is not mandatory. It's free text to allow people to freely enter a time description if relevant.

If you redownload the version that is now online and you overwrite the file vbgooglemaphse.php, you'll see that it now fills in a default text in the full text field.

The vbeditor takes his settings from the general settings of the forum so you cannot leave it empty. I'm looking for a fix for that one but the workaround is to download again and overwrite that file vbgooglemaphse.php, if you don't want to fill in something

limey 04-26-2006 10:27 PM

Ok thanks stonyarc. I was filling in everything, but for some reason it still wouldn't take. I'll try this version.

limey 04-26-2006 10:34 PM

I still get that error that it won't let me add an element. I'm giving up for now and will come back to it later.

"Your full text could not be added into the database because one or more fields blank were left blank. Please make sure you have enter all required information.
Return to previous page"

This looks to be one of the most useful hacks (once I get it working) for me that I've seen in a long time. Nice job.

wizardan 04-26-2006 10:37 PM

Fully tested all features.
Happy to report no bugs whatsover.
Awesome work, stonyarc.
I could see this, or the member edition as default in vB4.0;)

the full text error applies to the bottom vbulletin text editor. don't change the lat lng fields just click in the map somewhere.

marker title, marker text and full text that's the only thing you need to fill in and it should work fine.

Hey wizardan,

Thanks for fully testing it and reporting back.

There are some minor thingy like some redundant phrases but that should clear up in the next service release.

I'm quite happy with the functions and how they work it offers to the users. There is a lot of potential in this app.

This as default in vb 4 would be very nice. They might want to clean my code a bit but the concept is there :D

I'm telling you its not. I just installed vbseo and I wonder if the final submit is causing something not to work.

When I add an element this is what it looks like: vbgooglemaphse.php?do=addelement

After it posts and I get that error I just see this:
vbgooglemaphse.php

Should it have all the variables on the end or is this ok?

Its definitely not working for me. Reuploaded the whole hack double and triple checked everything. I'll try it on another board in a little bit and see if it works there.

I believe you, I'm just looking for a solution.

For dynamic application like vbgooglemap and vbgooglemaphse you'll have to configure vbseo to exclude, bypass or ignore them.

They even mention that on their site.

i meant, can you make the members map and the hotspots map the same map, i.e. use the same map for both those things?

ALSO: in your PDF file in step 7, you wrote that the link should point to "vbgooglemap.php". i think you meant to write "vbgooglemaphse.php".

I could cook up a function for that so that users are in overlay in this map. The datamodel supports it.

If so I might have to discontinue the member edition.

However some people have 500-600 users on there if you are going to combine that with a few 100 events or locations or whatever it will become crowded.

Thanks for the error catch I'll update the pdf file now.

Tyegurl 04-26-2006 11:42 PM

i take it you just reuploaded the file lmfao....was having problems unzipping it....so i came back to download and it said invalid file....refreshed and woo hoo it downloaded...

works beautifully ;) i wanna chat with you on something....i will pm you...i know how busy you are...so take your time getting back to me its no big rush :D

Can't figure out the problem. Installed on 3 boards. 2 seo'd with different hacks, and 1 plain jane no seo hacks at all and none of them work.

They all produce the same error:
"Your full text could not be added into the database because one or more fields blank were left blank. Please make sure you have enter all required information.
Return to previous page"

Can I literally just enter "erererererer" for every field and it would take it? It does not work for me, but I see you did that in the screenshots.

I'm just happy I'm not crazy....phew.

i think you should do it. you could perhaps have an on/off switch for members and hotspots... i.e., they can choose to show only members, or only hotspots, or both. but i think it would be a more elegant modification if that was possible... not that this doesn't already rock!

This is currently a seperate version and it doesn't mix anything with the Member edition

You can define your own categories so if you have a small board and define your usergroup as a category they will show.

The legends are automatically build

I dropped in 3 markers without a problem. It must be something data related but normally it checks for issues.

You can also download the version now online of vbgooglemaphse.php and overwrite that one so that het prefills the full text with a small text to avoid the board warning that the post is too short.

The full text error comes from the editor at the bottom. Do you have settings on your general board that limit the use?

Can you also post a link?
