The end all "posting in the wrong forum" solution
Ok, I think its getting out of hand, anyone else agree?
Members posting questions, ideas, etc in the wrong forums, more specifically, the Modification/template/code/plugin/extension release forums rather than true releases. I have used a hack for old threads, where if someone was going to post in an old thread, say...45 days old? It will have a checkbox that they must click before they can post with a warning explaining that they are posting in an old thread and that they should only do so if posting pertinent information regarding the original subject. So why cant we have a similar checkbox, when creating a thread in said forums that will explain to the poster what belongs in the forum they are posting in and that if it is not a release, that they need to post it in "insert forum name here". This way, they will get the hint, because we can tell them everyday, and the problem doesnt go away. Thoughts? |
Yeah I've seen a lot of this lately also. I like your idea and think vB.org should implement that. Hopefully it will cut down on the amount of posts being posted in the wrong forum.

Honestly, the whole situation of posting in the wrong forum does not bother me, considering i do not have to manage that. However, if users cannot tell what the forum is from the title, description, stickies made, and relative posts, then i doubt they'd understand what's in the agreement.

Hmm, make posting a thread more work for the vast majority who can get it right, just because a few cannot - not my idea of a good solution.
How about people just report the thread instead of making stupid comments in it - and vb.org have enough staff to cover the reports at all times of the day. :) |

What about moderators have to approve all threads created in that forum...?
|
Again, that means people who get it right are punished...
Just use the report feature and pretty much any staff member will be able to deal with it the moment it is highlighted :) Chris |
I think notifying the user is not a bad thing; making he/she look the fool is another story, however. Just reporting the post will not help the person who've made the mistake and more likely it'll be repeated.

I think I saw a mod here that asks prior to post 'Did you post this in the right board?' and gives a pulldown to select another board. Perhaps that would help?
Regardless... I must check for new releases everyday on the homepage and it does annoy me to see the fluff. I think they may do it so that their question receives more views. |
I always report it. I know vB.org uses the report creates new thread. They always take care of it. I hate seeing people replying saying "Wrong Forum" when all they had to do is report it and keep shut.

There's no need for special warnings or such. It's our job to move those threads. Just report them, don't reply in them, and that's the best thing for this forum.
This has been brought up countless times before, no need for this to continue. Please use search. |
