Suggestion: Installed/Updated Status
In the same sense that you can search for new posts since your last visit, would making newly updated hacks go to the top of a similar page not be a good idea for people?
I know I look through my installed hacks for the updated indicators, but after page 2 it starts to get tedious.... Might be an idea for a free second? :) |
It would be better if the word "Installed" was not in the highlight colour, only the "Updated".
Or make installed Red and Updated Green....your right. I just figured that at this point editing the page they set aside for viewing installed hacks would make it easier.
I see 'Installed' has changed colour today - thanks. :)
nope, yesterday ;)
Today as far as I'm concerned, they were red when I last looked yesterday. :p
i just waited for you going offline to apply the change :p

Could there be a way that when a hack you have installed is updated, that you would get a pm or an email? Something like :
Hack X that you have installed was updated on 01-01-2007 (This would be when the actual hack itself, i.e. zip file or whatever, had been updated, not just that someone else had posted on the thread for the hack..) Or is there already a way to do this that I dont know about? |
How about when a hack is updated it automatically makes a post in it's discussion thread to say it's been updated. It would be very useful for working out a timeline when reading all the posts - particularly useful for when you're new to a hack and it's discussion thread.

An automatic system notifying users who've clicked "Install", whether a text and/or file edit or upgrade, would be sweet.
An automatic e-mail is a very bad idea IMO, esp for text edits - I often have to tidy up or edit the post on some hacks. Also, not all file uploads require an update to be sent out. Imagine e-mailing 2000 people because of a typo in the instructions !! - The process should be manual.
Ideally, I'd like to see something like a mouseover text box showing the date/time of when a hack was updated so I don't need to open a thread just to see that it was last updated in 2005. Also, I dunno if the option exists (since I've yet to release anything), but is there a way to disable the "edit" function so that when an author updates a hack due to a typo or something minor, it doesn't show that the hack itself was updated unless the other specifies that it is. ;)

I see your point Paul M. I still think a notification system would be beneficial. If plausable, we could explore Omega Prime's suggestion.

This may be far fetched but I'd like to see a list of hacks/mods I have installed in my user cp with version number and whether I need an update.
maybe in the future, there may be more details on your userpages, but right now it will stay the way it is, and paul mentioned the best reasons :shocking: ^^
Oi :p

Seriously, I never knew that was there. Thanks! I guess it wasn't as far fetched as I thought. |
I would suggest a "Update Button". Don't like to press Uninstall/Install each time a hack is updated :)
just download the updated file, and the hack isn'T marked as updated anylonger...
You don't even need to download it, just click on the link and then cancel the download.
