Dissapointed with service section of vbulletin.org.

Well I just signed up cuz I was going to post in the services section of this forum, however, it looks like no one is helping anyone in there. There are lots of people willing to pay but they are being left out in the cold.

I was going to post asking for a vbulletin skinner to help customize my forum, but after viewing post by post of people who can't find anyone, I may change my mind. Is there any other forum out there that will have more skinners in one spot?

Thanks for any advice.

You are not viewing post after post of people who can't find help :)
No replies are allowed to be posted in there. People are contacted via private message to arrange details :)

aha! I knew it. Thanks for the clarification:)

By no replies it does give the impression that the requests are gone unanswered. Only a few ever go back to their post(s) and say that their request(s) have been filled.

I & others have tried to get it changed, but no joy - noone even seems willing to give it a trial.

I no longer bother with that forum - most requests are too vague and you cannot clarify them without resorting to PM - my PM's are always on the 500 limit anyway, so I won't waste them on such things - esp after my experience of last week - there was one I could have quickly done, just needed one minor detail - but when I tried to PM them, they had PM's turned off !!

One of the best way's ive seen it done was at forums.digitalpoint.com

If you make everything too secret, no one can sample the various portfolios, website links, etc. It does make it harder.

Wow! I just realized we have a 500 PM quota. :classic:

Funny some people complained that wasn't enough.

I'm sorry, but vBulletin.org can't make people do service requests. We create the place to request, the rest is up to the users. If people truly want to help out with service requests and want more info before accepting they can use the PM system. If this is too much work, mummy is the only person they can complain too. You want the money, you want the service? Do the investigation yourself.

Nope, I don't agree. I think it's the wrong way to go, but oh well.

vB is a hobby to me, not a profession. If that's the official attitude then I'm glad I decided not to bother with that section anymore. :)

I think a lot of members make requests and do get a response via PM,but forget to post back that their request has been filled

sabret00the 04-10-2006 10:15 AM

i actually think answered ones should be hidden automatically.

i.e. you set it so a cron job can send a pm to the poster, asking him to click a link if his request has been filled if he says yes, then you just hide/delete the thread.

bairy 04-10-2006 10:13 PM

I wouldn't be keen on deleting/hiding the thread, but I like the click a link idea... perhaps just edit the title to prefix [Completed].

Maybe a cron job that messages anyone who posted in that forum after x days to ask them if it's been completed. Title edit if it has, bump it (change the date) if it hasn't.

Believe me, nobody will be crying themselves to sleep tonight.

And if vB were such a "hobby" to you and so "enjoyable" to use, you sure aren't showing it through being so picky with the requests. It should be "fun" for you to find out what the job is exactly. If it isn't, then I doubt fuffiling requests forms one of your hobbies. If you don't want to do it - don't do it. But don't sit here and critisize this forum for something you don't want to do.

I don't believe free speech has been outlawed just yet - I've noticed you don't like me voicing my views when you don't agree with them, in fact, your apparent dislike of me in particular is plain for all to see - never the less I won't be crying myself to sleep tonight either. :)

I don't think Tony's reponse was appropriate (especially the reference to crying to mummy) so I want to apologise on behalf of the site.

I also don't think that staff from here should be directly referring to members and responding to their comments in a negative fashion, so again, I want to apologise on behalf of the site.

I agree with Tony's point that we have no power over the voluntary members and can't make them fulfill any of the requests - however, Tony was a bit overly defensive and "enthusiastic" with his response.

I'm closing this thread and will attend to the issue. Feel free to open another thread to discuss.
