HOTM?FAke!

You said that you choose HOTM's throughout install numbers

AWS has WAY more installs than Plugin accelerator and isn't in the poll? Why?

Oblivion Knight 04-05-2006 01:44 PM

Install numbers is just a single factor, there are many to determine the outcome of the HOTM poll I believe (though I don't know them all).

Logikos 04-05-2006 02:19 PM

It calulates the # of installs in a 4 week period I belive. He may have alot of installs now, but when the poll was created he prolly didn't. That has happen to me before.

Ziki 04-05-2006 03:08 PM

We'll see if he will be in the next poll....

Xenon 04-05-2006 03:58 PM

The script takes those mods, whichj have been released durign the timespan of 5 weeks before the poll is created, and chooseing those 5 which has got the most installs during that timespan, so next month will be totally different mods in, as the release date determines as well :)

Yes, very annoying  At least one hack of mine still gets over 180 installs per month (which is often more than the current contenters) but never gets a lookin :(

Tralala 04-05-2006 07:14 PM

Just curious, why was uCash & uShop v2.0.0 a nominee for both February and March?

The date that it was posted is the reason for that, if you time it correctly it's possible to have a hack in the poll two months in a row assuming it does not win the first month and it recives enough installs.

that's the way it is....
i have had some hacks as well which got enough installs but in the wrong period. Nothing to get annoyed about...

It's an annoyance to me ;) I have pride in my hacks and would love to have a hotm, even once would be nice :) Some great hacks have won in their time, but equally, some winners have vanished without a trace a few months after winning - long standing "steady" hacks do not seem to do well in it - just look at the top 5 vb3.5 hacks, only the v3 Arcade has won hotm - and in reality, that only won because the ibp hack got itself disqualified.

Xenon 04-06-2006 12:30 AM

well, as i said i would like to see my hacks in there as well, but they aren't
nothing to get annoyed about, just to get a reason to release more ;)

and there may be changes in the way of chooseing hacks in the future :)

Paul M 04-06-2006 12:32 AM

<strop-mode> I'll get annoyed if I want </strop-mode>

:p

Does the HOTM take into account for Template Modifications (and possibly Styles) too? If yes, it has the potential of taking things to an entirely different level. Whether it'll represent well against the other categories is another story, however.

Xenon 04-06-2006 10:59 AM

nope, right now just code mods are taken in account

template mods don'T get enough installs right now to be in that poll, but we might add something like that for styles as well :)

amykhar 04-06-2006 11:42 AM

Doing a hot style might be a good idea. It might be an incentive for the really good designers to release a free style, which they generally don't do. Of course, the problem with a style getting a lot of installs is that you don't want your site to look like everybody else's ;)

Erwin 04-06-2006 11:52 PM

What about hot member? ;)

Desihunk 04-06-2006 11:55 PM

Between,

What do HOTM winners get? :p

Thanks Xenon and amykhar for your replies. :)

The advantage of template mods and custom styles is that the users, if willing, have the ability to further tweak the layout to show a bit of their personality. Anyone with minimal knowledge in HTML/XHTML/CSS/Javascript/graphics can dip their hands and apply layout changes. That's the beauty of it. The difference in styles, however, is a matter of creative level and know-how.

I think it's great for styles to be considered - not that it should be the primary incentive for helping others - as it is part of the modification process. :)

Ziki 04-09-2006 09:09 AM

So how about telling us who is nominated this month?

Tony G 04-09-2006 09:17 AM

I agree, needs to be one for template mods and styles as they are just as much of a part in this community now. :p
