This could be the CMS we've all dreamt about, need a show of support please

Hi All,

I have been in serious talks with phpkb to re-develop their knowledgebase system into another sellable package which is built specifically for vb3.5.

here is an online demo of the core script:
http://www.knowledgebase-script.com/demo/

So far they have confirmed they can do the following for the vb3.5 version:
-the script will live within the vb3.5 header and footer
-the script will share the vb user database
-the script access groups can share vb groups to control article access/publishing rights
-the wysiwyg will be modified to include local file attachments
-recent 'articles' can be shown on any vb page
-templating will be customizable

They are showing a lot of enthusiasm towards this venture. I am not affiliated with these guys I am just desperate for a nice integrated CMS and am trying to get a company like this to go the extra mile for us all. If you think this project has potential and would be interested in how it develops please post in this thread as a show of support. If we show enough support in this thread it will make this company even more eager to customize the script for us.

Thanks,
Sean

Right now this just looks like a page of 3 colums and 2 boxes underneath, so my questions is... how customizable is this going to be?

will we be able to add modules for say paypal, for ads, for a calendar, a shoutbox, etc....

I'm basically just trying to get a fully integrated article management system that doesn't look like a modified vbforum but is more in line with what you see on ezine websites. I haven't thought about ads in the aricles since my ads are in my header & footer (it should not be a problem), for paypal you could have that driven by vbulletin I think (pay per article moves user into a readers group?), calendar vb would be fine for me, shoutbox vb based is fine.. Did you go into any of the articles? I think they look good. For example:

http://www.knowledgebase-script.com/...stion.php?ID=7

If anyone knows of a fully integrated cms that looks professional and independent of vb please let me know, but all I have seen are annoying integration hacks for mambolike cms apps, and cms's like mambo live outside the vbheader and footer, also do not integrate to vb groups from what i can see. Any CMS that is 'vb integrated' just looks like a modified vb forum so I see no point to that..

This is FAR from a real CMS, your right it looks like a good potential for article management but A CMS does far more, Actually I think with enough mods from VBulletin.org you can really use VB as a CMS, the only thing that I have found that is really lacking is Content Pages that (your right) don't look like forum posts.

I am searching for that as well.
Links, Downloads, Pictures, Chat, RSS...etc..can all be found in vb.org hacks, but there really is no "Content Pages" that is easy to create and use and is scaleable, templateble and doesn't rely on the forum for use.

Let me know what you find, I will keep my eyes open as well.

Any Luck on this? Have you purchased it? Is it working?

Yes--I will like to show support this vb intergration--it is something that Iam looking for my upcoming forum---I like it...

I think it is a great idea. Out of the box and on my site would allow me to put media up that I want to have an article appearance.

Keep us posted

That doesn't quite look like a CMS to me either.

Rich 05-19-2006 11:24 PM

Whats wrong with vbadvanced? It is 100% integrated and is a content management and portal system. page=whatever you want.

Shaliza 05-20-2006 12:38 AM

Yeah, if you really want something close, it looks like vBAdvanced is it.

This one here is nothing more than a knowledge base system.

Cyburbia 05-20-2006 12:46 AM

It's not a CMS, but rather a variant that seems to combine a document management system with a blog or product review system.

I was just wondering the same thing.
What does vBAdvanced miss?

Check out some of the CMS demos at http://www.opensourcecms.com .

Think if it this way: many people are looking for a content management system to run the front end of their site, with vBulletin as just one feature of the site. From what I've seen, vBAdvanced seems to add content management onto vBulletin, rather than adding vBulletin onto the CMS. A vBAdvanced site will still feel very vBulletin-ish eveywhere, which many people don't want.

Shaliza 05-20-2006 05:27 AM

What about the WebTemplates hack? As far as I know, you can customize it so that it looks nothing like vB.

Kroby 05-20-2006 05:34 AM

What about vbdrupal ? nice user integration ;)

Exactly! VBadvanced is still to modular and trying to add pages was a real pain for me...

I would like something that doesn't use the Message board for content and doesn't "look" like a message board for my page contents. I am looking for a robust page manager or page creator. KB seems really close to what I need, it doesn't have page templates or RSS (2 real bummbers) but it could probably be tweeked for that later.

Again anyone try this out yet? I hear they may customize it to work with VB, I am hoping so.

bumpity bump bump/.

any updates?
