evenmonkeys 04-01-2006 04:47 AM

That's a pretty nice idea. =D

shiva 04-01-2006 05:45 AM

Hmm, interesting.

Appears you may have it as a review system as well. Sure would make a lot of people very happy then. :)

SS9267547 04-01-2006 09:28 AM

Yeah very easy to make it as anything you want it to be really be it articles, reviews, etc. Just needs a few changes to the code. However I did have in the makings of a review system or perhaps it would be more of a whole gaming site portal type deal with cheats, reviews, etc lol. However I havn't decided on if I want to release it here as a freebie or have it as a commercial product oh and there is the fact I don't know if anyone would really need it other then me.

RS_Jelle 04-01-2006 10:35 AM

[high]* RS_Jelle clicks install :) [/high]

A suggestion: make it W3C compliant:

1. Fix a lot of &'s to & (you should use HTML entities)
2. Fix some <br> tags to <br /> (the br element should be self-closed in XHTML)
3. When $letterbits isn't displayed on the glossary home and on search results pages, you get the following in the source code:
HTML Code:

<table class="tborder" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr align="center">

</tr>
</table>

This isn't W3C compliant: you can't have an empty tr tag. You should make a conditional for this, to hide this table when $letterbits isn't displayed.

SS9267547 04-01-2006 10:39 AM

Ah getting sloppy lol. Forgot to look over the html code. Thanks RS_Jelle for the information, will add to next update if one is done.

UK Jimbo 04-01-2006 10:40 AM

Nice work :)

I think that there's some non-HTML parsing or extra escaping going on in this screenshot

I've had a great idea for an additional feature too. If glossary words were highlighted in posts (double underlined?) you could hyperlink parts of the post with links to the glossary.

I've got some ideas of how best to do this in terms of design :)

SS9267547 04-01-2006 10:52 AM

Will until I'm off onto another project and disappear from the planet as I tend to do, might happen soon, there is the possiablity for additional updates. If you guys see problems, have solutions, extra code, ideas, etc, etc please do post and I'll see if I can do. Anyway the 'html' issue has been noted and will be looked into.

Yes! We have :)
What about permisions to groups to add in a glossary wiht premoderation or directly in it? :)
I know it's not so easy but .... will be GRATE!!!!

PS btw clicked install :)

am-fs 04-01-2006 02:56 PM

Nice...........Clicks Install

Is there a way to import from cing vbglossary?

I have over 1000 terms, would like to find an easy way to add them.

Thanks

-=Sniper=- 04-01-2006 03:06 PM

excellent, will be installing it soon :)

RS_Jelle 04-01-2006 03:21 PM

I created a vBadvanced CMPS module for it to display random terms: Random Glossary Term :)

Oddjob 04-01-2006 03:35 PM

Sweet hack

*Clicks Install*

It would be cool if users could post submissions.....

SS9267547 04-02-2006 05:41 AM

D.Ilyin / Oddjob: We'll see, depends on the demand and how I feel lol. Would also need to learn how to add updates to this plugin system without people reinstall the script over. ;)

am-fs: I don't have cings glossary system so I don't know how its set up. You'd have to at least send me the install script so I can see how the database is setup.

RS_Jelle: Thanks for the release!

ChErAbOo 04-02-2006 08:50 AM

Wonderful addition I had something like this with my old phpBB board and when I moved to VB I was upset I lost it as I needed alot of medical terminology in my site and a place for ppl to view common terms and what they meant this is a perfect add on I also agree though would be nice to have it based on usergroups who can add to it..hard when its only admin doing it all..and you have thousands of terms etc..

Anyway its wonderful though in a few hours I have added back in over 200 terms with more to go..thanks for this clicks Install

MissKalunji 04-02-2006 02:00 PM

thank you! works like a charm!!!!

Blackbeard 04-02-2006 02:11 PM

Thanks m8 this is cool, if you plan on upgrading it soon can you add it so mods and supermods can add to this via there cp aswell, cuts down to work load on the few admins

shortbus1662 04-03-2006 02:24 AM

awesome!

I'm going to wait to install until this is updated and enhanced if it ever is.

I have been waiting for something like this since the move to 3.5.4.

There are so many terms I need to have entered it would be much better if users could also enter in the terms. That would be awesome.

If you could turn it into articles, reviews, etc., that would be even better.

Thanks for releasing this.

i wholeheartedly 2nd this and would install if this was possible. it would then be functional like UrbanDictionary where you can Add (moderated of course) your own definitions.

that would be extremely awesome.

RS_Jelle 04-03-2006 08:59 AM

A little suggestion: the sort order of the terms when you view a letter should be alphabetically, now they are sorted by id :)

SS9267547 04-03-2006 03:34 PM

Just a quick note, there will be a update released for this hack in the next week or two depending on how much time I have to work on this. In the update I will put in any thing that needs fixing, so do list the problems, as well add a few new features such as the mod addon as long as I can figure out how the update installs work with the plugin system lol.

GrendelKhan{TSU 04-03-2006 08:16 PM

awesome!

I agree with the suggestions for some needed additoins (if you get a chance) :)

-alphabetical sort,
-user group permissions
-user added content

great job! I really hope you keep up development :D

gavinzac 04-03-2006 10:06 PM

you know what would absolutely rock my socks? if there were some way to add this to the auto-link scripts; like if someone says Keyboard it automatically creates a link on the word to the glossary definition.

SS9267547 04-03-2006 10:24 PM

gavinzac: Yes I was thinking of the feature when I started the glossary but I havn't created the feature yet since I'm not sure where to get started. Would have to make it some how global I think so it would link any word in post, reviews, whatever. Alot of work for right now so it might have to wait until the next release after this upcoming update. However The Geek created a autolinker called Geek Auto-Linker which has the idea of what is needed however I'd have to talk with him about it.

gavinzac 04-03-2006 10:40 PM

maybe if you took a look at the way that script adds auto-link definitions to the database, and make it an optional setting that your script can also automatically add a link to that mod's own database fields?
it would be like me installing both of your mod's (glossary, and Geek's autolinker), then creating lots of glossary terms, then creating lots of auto-links to those glossary terms. Hours could be saved if this was handled automatically! I know it seems selfish but i'm sure it would be a great addition to your mod.
your mod is great anyway, i'll install it tommorrow and pray that someday the autolinks will be done automatically :)

ChErAbOo 04-03-2006 11:55 PM

I think all the ideas for this put fourth are excellent hope to see many added to it in the future. I do hope though if a upgrade it keeps the terms we have now I have added over 500 already would hate to loose any on a update..but everything everyone has mentioned like certain usergroup or mod submit of terms, ABC order are all wonderful ideas

macgyver24 04-07-2006 01:59 PM

Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in \includes\class_core.php

I'm now getting this error since the install I'm unable to edit any user groups when I try to save the above error message comes up.

Cybertims 04-07-2006 05:10 PM

Anyone got a sql file to import to give it a start?

Cheers....

SS9267547 04-08-2006 12:08 AM

macgyver24: Hmm, never came accross this error and why is there an error from your styles? What are you doing when you get this error? What other hacks do you have installed?

Cybertims: Import file of what? Just terms that are ready to use or to import from something else?

Stachel 04-08-2006 04:35 PM

V 1.1.1 >> Support for html code, smiles, bbcode and imgcode with admin options. (Complete)

Yes yes!!

Definitely need [imgcode] support! to add pics!

Just add that feature and nevermind about all the others in the V 1.1.1 list :) :bunny:

RS_Jelle 04-08-2006 06:34 PM

A little bug:

The search_text_only phrase isn't a standard vBulletin phrase, so the second search option ("Search Text Only" normally) is blank on my site (and on the sites of most of the other users of this mod). You should use a standard vBulletin phrase for this, or put a custom one in the product ;)

SS9267547 04-09-2006 01:54 PM

Thanks RS_Jelle, I'll look into that for the next release.

D.Ilyin 04-11-2006 01:02 PM

SS9267547 and anohter one idea :) or not....
English letters it's good, but what about german or cyrillik or others? :)
Hope you understand what i mean :).
Maybe need an example for adding own alphebet in glossary?

SS9267547 04-12-2006 12:31 AM

D.Ilyin: Its not a bad idea, but I'm not sure how to go about to do this. Have you ever seen something like this done before? Perhaps have any example for me to see?

dendrob 04-12-2006 01:50 AM

This is exactly what I was looking for... I had phpBB lexicon installed, then I moved to VB.. !!! so what's the ETA on 1.1.1 ?
