Which Datacenter / Host do you use for you large forum's server(s)?

Not trying to advertise anything here, just always looking for good recommendations. I like to be somewhat diversified, but also I have a hard time finding certain types of configurations.

I have custom configured servers from ev1servers (large forums) and some smaller ones from servermatrix/ the planet (medium websites/database activity). I've been with ev1 for about 5 years and have been mostly happy, and theplanet/sm for about 2 years and am satisfied with the service, though I've had some problems with ignorant techs (haven't we all?)

My servers are mostly unmanaged. I'm wondering who everyone else uses and if they are managed or unmanaged, custom configured or standard, or co-located. Also: How long have you been with them and are you happy with them?

I use ev1 and just get custom servers. great pricing for what you get

We recently moved our main and test servers to 1 & 1 (root servers). We manage them.

(away from ezzi.net, who were appalling over the last 12 months).

We have several servers at EV1 and the pricing is very competitive. One thing that has sparked our interest is the m/Cluster software offering.

Our primary cluster of servers are with RackSpace.com, I'm on a first name basis with some of the techs at this point :)

We have our servers located at EV1 and have been with them for over 3 years. Service has been pretty good and the EV1 party last year was great.. ;) BUT, since they have refused to add Opterons to the mix I am jumping ship, having our own custom server(s) built and am currently looking at colo options. Colo4Dallas is looking really good at this point but may look at DedicatedNow for that as well.

I have used Acunett, Serverwizards and a few other people to handle our server management. May look at Serverwizards again soon.

Another ev1server here. Last 2 years

I run a large forum and blog network on two separate dedicated servers at Hosting Matters -- they've been absolutely wonderful in accommodating our enormous trafficked account.

A close friend of mine just got promoted up to management at Red Plaid, so hopefully a deep hosting discount is in the cards for later on. :)

FlyBoy73 03-28-2006 09:04 PM

I'm not sure your friend would appreciate you posting that publicly; however I hope you get it. :)

You do realize the idea of this forum is for admins who run large message boards, correct? Because you cannot run a large forum on shared hosting.

We have had our ded at httpme.com for about 18 months now. Very pleased.

How have things been with 1and1 so far?

Ntfu2 04-01-2006 03:24 PM

I got my first dedicated server about 2 months ago now from softlayer.com

I was a total mess starting out and their support guys rock, and helped me immensley and very promptly. Never really had downtime that wasnt caused by myself So i'd reccommend them :yesway:

danrak 04-02-2006 07:52 PM

I've been with liquid web for almost two years now and I'm sure glad I'm with them. Great service and support.

We use iweb. They manage 10 boxes for us. CDN$ = good price. Highly recommended service.

Bhuwan 04-06-2006 01:54 PM

i dont run a big board but i felt left out not posting :)
rackspace.com

RyanC 04-06-2006 02:44 PM

I have two dedicated boxes at cyberwurx.com. I've used them for four years and couldn't be happier.

Support is amazing and prices are decent.

unnetboardguy 04-10-2006 02:45 AM

we run a dedicated box at hardhathosting.

we're old communitech customers who left when communitech was bought by interland.com (now web.com). We jumped to hardhat as soon as we could, and have been happy ever since.

Not the most competitive pricing but great guys and easy to work with.

Small world. I was with communitech for a very long time with many clients before they switched to Inerland as well. Interland was horrible. That's when I started with my first server at ev1.

What do you guys reccommend for around 70 dollars a month and which is the best support where we won't have max_user_connections limit?

Sculli 04-10-2006 07:09 PM

I am using Liquidweb as well, though I am on a VPS for now, but I may have to move up to dedicated if I can't sort out my server issues (256MB RAM guaranteed only gets you so far). All in all I am happy with Liquidweb, been with them since December 2005.
