vbulletin is broken...parse error on line 265

Can anyone point me in the right direction? When you hit the index.php page from the idex.html page I get this error...

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/littler/public_html/lrrs/index.php on line 265

no mods, just the base package that came with the vbullentin software.

Also, this is version vBulletin 3.0.1

Andreas 03-18-2006 04:56 PM

Don't you think it's time you updated, 3.0.1 is ancient and has many security holes, 3.0.13 is the latest 3.0.x version.

Xenon 03-18-2006 05:44 PM

as you don'T use any mods, i would suggest to download 3.5.4 and upgrade :)

ccampb6 03-18-2006 07:06 PM

I don't care to upgrade at this point. Where would I go to find a new file? I uploaded the one I had opened to look at and I'm still having the problem. Anyone know where I can get an original that I can look at?

Brandon Sheley 03-18-2006 07:48 PM

vbulletin.com ;) and I highly suggest upgrading

ccampb6 03-18-2006 11:21 PM

Come on guys...I need help here. I emailed the folks at vbulletin about upgrading. It's been a long time and I don't have the user/pass for logging in and buying the upgrade. Here's what my index.php looks like...see if you see anything that might help me out...

Code:

Do NOT post complete vBulletin files, this violates the copyright!

I must admit I find this 'rule' a bit strange on vb.org - since only licenced members can see code, what precisely is the problem ?

Now no one can help him.

Andreas 03-18-2006 11:54 PM

Rule = Copyright Law :)
Although all users are licensed, this does not give them the right to distribute vBulletin files - and posting them here is a distribution.

Anyway, the solution was already posted:

I actually took this into consideration and that is why I did not post it originally. If an admin would like to check my registration date to the forum versus the version number feel free. I am coming in on the back end of this. I administer a forum for a local car club. They purchased the software and I'm having a hard time getting the original user/pass from them to upgrade it. :cross-eyed:

Anyway...any help here?

Andreas 03-18-2006 11:57 PM

The file is damaged beyond repair. Upload the original again.

ccampb6 03-18-2006 11:57 PM

Upload what? I don't have the original. Just what was left on server.

Andreas 03-18-2006 11:58 PM

Then download a fresh 3.0.1 package from vbulletin.com

/shakes head

I don't have a user/pass...as I am waiting for vbulletin.com to get with me on upgrading.

Andreas 03-19-2006 12:08 AM

Then it seems you are a bit SOL.
As said, the file is damaged (huge chunk is truncated) so you will need a fresh copy.
If you have open tickets @ vbulletin.com, let me know the ID via PM and i'll take a look.

ccampb6 03-19-2006 12:45 AM

Ok, I finally got hold of the right person and have downloaded the 3.5.4 version of the software. Any tips on upgrading before I dive in?

We'll...that was easy. Everything is back up and working:banana:

actually it's very easy: with an owned license but not renewed you can still get files from vb.org as you are still allowed to use your version and hack it, but if we would allow posting of full files, it would be possible for those users to get access to new files which they don't can get themselves because of not renewing...
