Argh. I haven't got time for a prank, and I know they're going to expect one. I'll have to think of something. Now that I have my old server, I might be able to be a bit more creative :D

One of my mods suggested something that I found a really good prank, but my bf disagrees :(
Let's explain: I have my one board (e-steki) with my bf. It's known to most of the frequent members that we are a couple. So, one smod suggested that we post an announcment that we separated and the site is going to be shut down, or sth like that. I find it a great prank but he doesn't like it :(

It sounds like a good idea to me. I would add something like you caught him cheating and then he responds with something crazy like you didn't give him enough attention...... ect ect...

Anyone know of a good " You have been hacked " page that could be thrown up? Or how about some code that makes someone have to click on a link a random amount of times before it actually works.... :D

well yes I could do it so it restores them. Just use a query like set dead to 1 where it is 0 and set the battle id to 9999.

then to restore i use a query to set the dead to 0 and the battle id to 0 where battle = 9999

Last year I made an extremely girly/pink skin.. and a few other things that are probably not appropriate to mention here. ;)

In another forum I'm member at, a year or two ago on April fool's day, an admin changed the skin to a "hacked" skin that was all pink and everything, posted a "we got hacked" announcement, changed some usernames, replaced the user CP link with the log out link, changed some phrases, used some replacement variables (like noob to boob, by the way, don't read this sentence if you're a staff member) etc.. The guy's banned there now by the way. Poor Maj ='(
I'm not sure what we're gonna do this year though, on our forums. I wanted to blow the forum sky-high by editing the crap out of it, but Fly says we might lose members this way.

One of my favorites was the year a group of volunteers from here posed as hackers at my site. It freaked the members out so badly that they STILL talk about it.

My site probably won't be ready in time for a prank (still in re-development).. :(

Hmm, if we're really close to being ready for launch, maybe we'll have a one day teaser and then take it down to finish working on it.

A few years ago, I did the old reversal where everything at the site was printed backwards. (Got that little trick from here, btw.) Everyone loved it and kept joking about that for months afterward. My new site won't be open yet this year but I'll certainly watch this thread for wicked ideas I can use next year... or whenever the impulse strikes.. hehe. ;)

how about one of us make a bogas news web page talking about the april fools db hack that is suspected to atack flaws on vb sites and say we did an upgrade that should protected us but come april fools we could act like we were hacked lol

Good old backwards forum. Plus some other little pranks which I am still thinking through!

Last year I pulled a pretty good prank with my co-admin at the time (previous project). We ran a pretty close-knit community where everybody knew everybody and the admins were good buddies with the members...Well...a couple months before April Fools, we had been creating fake admin threads. Everything from funny to serious to pointless...We were also creating fake "battles"...we would stage fights in a hidden admin forum where it would appear as if the admins were pissed at each other. Well, come april fools, my co-admin announced that I had been banned as an admin for confidential reasons. On top of that, this fake admin section had miraculously become public! He had supposedly left on a business trip and was not able to be contacted...meanwhile, the other admins were very non-tech savvy (which was true), so they "could not figure out" how to hide the admin section.

While all of this is going on...co-admin and I are logging into a secret admin account and watching and reading all of the mayhem...simultaneously discussing it with the rest of the admins. People TOTALLY fell for it, for the entire 24 hours...we were keeping a very close eye on everybody to make sure that nobody took it too seriously and left in a fit of rage (as I said, tight-knit community). In the end, it all worked out perfectly...it was a lot of work, but couldn't have worked any better.

Step 3: No really, be 100% positive your backup works

Step 4: Delete all of your posts and members and put a hacked message called "W3lc0m3 t0 th3 st0n3 @g3! H@x0r3d!!!!1111"

But if you put the hacked message up - nobody will be able to use the forum. I would rather have a useable forum that still has an april fools joke.

Our board has never had moderators. We've always hated the idea. But as the board grows we're considering it. The board members would freak if we added moderators. They freak if I change a button LOL. So, we're going to announce that we are taking applications for moderators, but we're announcing it on April 1st. So, nobody will beleve it, but if we do bring on moderators later we can say we gave full disclosure. :)

I would love to do the reversal trick. Someone teach me please? :D

I have a backup of my forum from 2003. Could restore all the tables (except user table), so everyone sees old posts and private messages (even ones they deleted).

Then set the clock back so the forum time changes and see what they say.

My co-admin is a graphic design artist, so she's always coming up with seasonal banners. My forum is 99.5% women, so last year she put up a banner with flames and a bunch of men - vaguely like our default.

We haven't discussed what to do this year - she's pretty swamped with real life work.
