What does this do?
Give users the oppurtunity to be able to post new threads while still in forumdisplay. They do so via a "Quick Thread" link that results
in the drop down of the form for a new thread.

What features does this hack provide?
  • Quickthread from forumdisplay
  • Extra Threadfields Hack Integration
[high]F.A.Q[/high]
Q. The quickthread link shows automatically, what if i want to place it manually?
A. Simply disable the plugin titled "Show Quickthread Option". Then go to the "FORUMDISPLAY" template and place $quickthread
wherever you want the option to show.

Q. Does this work with your "Extra Threadfields Hack"
A. Yes, simply enable the "Extra Threadfields Integration" plugin.

Q. How to i enable/disable plugins?
A. If you have not yet done so, install the "Advanced Plugin Manager - Reloaded" hack for better control over your products and plugins.
Feel free to resort to the following link for that hack: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=97278

Don't forget to click INSTALL

Here is a screenshot.

.Tim 03-11-2006 06:24 PM

Very nice!

.Tim 03-11-2006 06:35 PM

Maybe it's just something on my board but when I make a thread with the quick thread, it auto subscribes me to the thread.

FleaBag 03-11-2006 06:39 PM

Whoa I love it! :)

Hm. It's not a problem with your site no. It does the same to me. I will look into this now.

Gio~Logist 03-11-2006 07:01 PM

Problem fixed. Small template issue.

ZIP UPDATED!!!

VaaKo 03-11-2006 07:04 PM

Step 1. Import the following product: product-itrader_extension.xml
Step 2. Enjoy the hack.

lol

Thanks

Gio~Logist 03-12-2006 12:19 AM

Heh :p. I always like to include that last step.

Gio~Logist 03-12-2006 04:59 PM

For those of you wondering why it sais last updated today, it's just a small little change i made so that it only calls the phrasegroup needed in forumdisplay.

In other words, nothing different really. Simple tweaked it so that it doesn't do unnecessary things in unnecessary places.

Cybertims 03-12-2006 06:17 PM

I get a red cross in the window, must be an image missing???

It shows right at the end of the title box.

Cheers.

Oddjob 03-12-2006 06:30 PM

fantastic, installed.

ragintajin 03-12-2006 06:31 PM

Oh man, I've been DYING for a simple hack like this!

Any chance you can add the posticons and smilie box in there? Perhaps as a useroption?

testing it now, look like not a extension :surprised:

Mastar 03-31-2006 02:21 PM

Can it be made into a button and place next to the new thread??

Developer 03-31-2006 02:23 PM

totally not a extension and u should phrase this words:Quick Thread

Oops. Yes, that was a little typo in the readme.txt.

Zip Updated!!!

OrangeFlea 04-09-2006 07:35 AM

Great hack.

One thing, we want to place Quick Thread directly to the right of the NewThread button on ForumDisplay and have it associated with an image (i.e., quickthread.gif) instead of having it as a link with a drop-down menu. Can you show me how to do this. Also, as mentioned earlier by another user, there is a red x next to the thread title in the quick thread box. How do we fix that?

Gizmo5h1t3 04-09-2006 07:41 AM

gettin the red x here also.....

nice addition tho!!

Where do you get a red x?

Also, do not forget to click install.

I apologize. I've clicked install :)

The red x appears to the very right of the subject/title field. I'm still having problems with that and the other issue (mentioned in my previous reply).

In the forumdisplay_quickthread template

Change:
<a href="#quickthread" id="quickthread" class="smallfont">Quick Thread</a>

To
<a href="#quickthread" id="quickthread" class="smallfont"><img src="IMAGEHERE" border="0"></a>

Also, the zip is being updated for the red x error.

Awesome, awesome. Also, would you mind telling me how to place it to the very right of the New Thread button. I want these two side by side.

Gio~Logist 04-09-2006 09:43 AM

Disable the "Show Quickthread Option".

Go to the FORUMDISPLAY template

Then put $quickthread after:
Code:

<if condition="$show['newthreadlink']"><a href="newthread.php?$session[sessionurl]do=newthread&amp;f=$foruminfo[forumid]" rel="nofollow"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/newthread.gif" alt="$vbphrase[post_new_thread]" border="0" /></a><else />&nbsp;</if>

OrangeFlea 04-09-2006 10:48 PM

Has the zip been updated yet? And for some reason, the button prefers to appear on the top of the new thread button, not to the side of it (as I want it to).

akanevsky 04-09-2006 11:51 PM

Nice hack. And congrats on "Advanced Coder" status.

Thank you very much :p

I owe a lot of my coding to a certain someone who always is there when i need help via AIM hehe

ScruffyDeluxe 04-14-2006 10:52 AM

Thanks! A very handy and easy to install hack.

The inevitable gripe: Is there any way to stop this showing in forums where no posting is allowed?

NR Fatal 04-14-2006 10:48 PM

how can I make this in the "Forum tools" drop down menu?

hotwheels 04-14-2006 11:20 PM

wow, that is freakin awesome.........

RaceJunkie 06-21-2006 05:17 PM

Is there a way to increase the thread title length?

RaceJunkie 06-28-2006 01:53 AM

6 days and no reply. Is the coder on vacation, dead, just plain too busy to support their hack?

In forumdisplay_quickthread make the following edit:

Replace:
Code:

<input type="text" class="bginput" name="subject" value="$subject" size="40" maxlength="85" tabindex="1" />
With this:
Code:

<input type="text" class="bginput" name="subject" value="$subject" size="40" maxlength="NUMBERHERE" tabindex="1" />
