"Latest X Entries" module and "Journals of Note" module are in their way.

influence 03-03-2006 08:14 PM

what about showing last 5 journal entries in members profile instead of the last entry?

thats what everyone have been asking for. Just check the journal thread and see for yourself

great hack, I was just in need of this!

Thanks!

shadowdancer36 03-04-2006 03:43 PM

Can someone make this for VBportal?

Vizionz 03-04-2006 05:45 PM

nothing is showing up for me :(

FleaBag 03-04-2006 06:43 PM

A flaw with this unfortunitely is that with the edit to cmps_index.php, it doesn't manage to pull the phrases and the title of the journal from the database on vB pages using the CMPS modules.

www.dragonninja.co.uk/journal.php

Besides, it's very good! :)

I was unable to determine your version of vB and vBa.
I had checked your vBadvanced and shown your problem.

tell me your versions please

Thanks for the update! :) Looking forward for your new journal modules to use on my journal page!

Is the new step instead of or aswell as the first step?

It's as well as the first step, and for People (like you) how had their forum integrated with vBadvanced CMPS and want to display this module in the integrated sidebar.

Upload the module file randomjournal.module
upload where? to my friends FTP ?

Really bad written tutorial, of course nothing shows up, no one can do it properly without extra knowledge

Milad 03-24-2006 02:53 PM

It's not my fault if you don't know how to install modules
Upload it: Admin CP -> vBa CMPS -> Download / Upload Module

If nothing is displayed, please give me a URL to see it.

Bonsai_Ryan 03-29-2006 06:56 PM

Works fine for me and I'm using vba cmps v 2.0 rc 2. Just a note though for anyone using this cmps still when you enter the $phasegroups code in your index file
PHP Code:

require_once('./includes/vba_cmps_include_template.php');

doesn't exist. This is what you need to find:
PHP Code:

require_once('./global.php');

In adv_portal_journalbit

found:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[journalist]</spna>

changed to:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[journalist]</span>

found:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[entries]</spna>

changed to:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[entries]</span>

found:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[views]</spna>

changed to:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[views]</span>

found:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[comments]</spna>

changed to:

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[comments]</span>

found:

span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[last_entry] / $vbphrase[date]</spna>

changed to:

span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[last_entry] / $vbphrase[date]</span>

Thanks for the mod!

louis_chypher 04-21-2006 01:55 PM

<span class="smallfont">$vbphrase[last_entry] / $vbphrase[date]</span>

to

<span class="smallfont">$randj[lastentrydate] / $vbphrase[date]</span>

not sure if $randj[lastentrydate] is what was meant to go in at this point?

Milad 04-22-2006 08:11 AM

what is the different you made?

louis_chypher 04-23-2006 01:21 PM

</spna> to </span> to cause the proper display of displayed info.

and

$vbphrase[last_entry] to $randj[lastentrydate] to cause the proper display of the journal entry date.

BlackxRam 04-23-2006 02:01 PM

What About a MOD of this mod, perhaps doing a Journal of the Day kind of thing?? Thats what I am essentially looking for atm. Maybe an option to instead of have one randomly each time, have one up for the entire day? =)

Milad 04-24-2006 10:01 AM

This is possible, but now I'll take a holiday to study, and I'll never code any thing before june, 22 2006.

wait for me

tried this , but it still wont show - anything else i need to do ?its enabled in the admincp .

DjTaz 06-19-2006 01:57 PM

Ok i got this working - and i also edited it so that instead of random journals , it shows the last 5 entries in the journals - and it has an Update your journal now button on it to encourage entries.

If i can figure out how to make a module for it ill re-write it and post - but i wont have time for a few days.

DjTaz 06-19-2006 09:37 PM

Ok , i think i managed to do this , but i have not tested it.

I have it working on my own boards and i dont want to uninstall it to test the module install, but as far as i can see it should work ok.

I can talk someone through how to do it manually if theres any issues with this , but if someone has a test board they want to try it on that would be even better.

I hardcoded the english words into the top of the module because i didnt have time to get the phrases working on my own board , so it'll stay like that unless someone else wants to re-code it to a better standard.
