Requests Forum "I would install this modification"

I'll be lazy and copy and paste my description from IRC.

3 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ? omg I have come up with an amazing idea for vbulletin.org
16:04 :++++++++++++++++++++ !Floris ? sweet
16:04 :++++++++++++++++++++ !Floris ? do tell!
16:04 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ? In modification requests forums...have it where you can click "I would Install This Modification" instead of the "Install This Modification"
16:04 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ? lol
16:04 :++++++++++++++++++++ !Floris ? :D
16:05 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ? Then we could actually see how many people would want to install a hack and maybe it would get some support!
16:05 :++++++++++++++++++++ !Floris ? :D exactly!
16:05 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ? I just got that idea because another douche posted in the wrong forum and I clicked install this modification for the heck of it lol

So anyways, and before anyone says "oh that's what we have polls for", think about it. There could be a page that has a list of all the modification requests threads and rank them based on the amount of "I would Install This Modification" clicks there was. That would give developers a better idea of what hacks are wanted and also if they are stumped and just want to code something they can take a look and do something from the organized list.

I second this motion.

Out of interest, how many coders make something that they will never use themselves ?

amykhar 03-03-2006 12:10 PM

I do Paul. Sometimes, if a project interests me intellectually or is trivial enough that I can knock it right out, I'll do it even if I'll never use it myself.

it'S an interesting idea

Cap'n Steve 03-05-2006 07:04 AM

I like it. Anything to get a little more traffic in that area.

Tony G 03-05-2006 09:24 AM

Seems like an okay idea, unsure though... dunno why.

tehste 03-05-2006 01:25 PM

yeah how about you restructure the way vb.org works to promote team based development. Also do away with the commercial rules. vB is a commercial product and we should be able to discuss freely commercial addons. I hope when you implement the new hack database and upgrade to 3.5 you change the way vb.org works as a community...

I would also like this one :)

This is a great idea. It would certainly help get some great requests filled.

BamaStangGuy 03-11-2006 01:11 AM

I like the idea

It depends on what the IF is following that statement...

"I would install this modification":

if it didn't suck.
if I wanted to waste bandwidth.
if I wanted my board to become extremely inefficient.
if pigs could fly.
if no one else does.

... I figured I'd go on the negative side of this argument. :)

zappsan 03-11-2006 11:40 PM

I also like the idea.

Nutz 03-12-2006 12:40 AM

Another good idea :)

Thanks,
Mat

I would code something I won't use just for the pure sake of learning. Out of all the hacks I have released. I think I use 2 of em.

DrewM 03-13-2006 08:56 PM

this would be a good idea

Devil's advocate is always welcome :)

I do. I run a board that is far more 'free' than most. I create a lot of security type hacks such as vbImposterBlock based on my experiences there, but I don't use them on my own board.

GamerJunk.net 05-16-2006 11:29 PM

Well this is mainly for when people requests things. All the time I see coders who just make things because they were requested, some of them are hacks that shouldn't even be considered before other projects.

This would actually give the coders more of a focus on things that people really want.
