Thanks.

Tralala 02-19-2006 07:23 PM

Cool, off to try it now. GREAT work, thanks so much for the self-working version!

This solves one of the biggest problems with RSS feed posters... too much noise that users end up tuning out. Not enough "filtering" going on. This provides the facility for news, to foster discussion, and is a nice diversion for visitors too!

Would love to see the option for a "Post this news story" link or pulldown option... the user could then easily generate a new post to foster discussion with friends. (Perhaps each feed could have a preferred forum in which these news posts would go. Or perhaps the user could choose which forum.) This would encourage folks to pick and choose interesting news stories to discuss, and would integrate this feature back into the forum concept all the more. Just brainstorming...

soulface 02-19-2006 07:35 PM

Atakan thx man... wd :p

Tralala 02-19-2006 07:48 PM

Installed but not working. :disappointed: I tried both sample feeds (Yahoo and Fox News) and each gives me this message:

"Syndicated content not available"

I had similar problems when I tried Inferno RSS, specifically for this module (before the self-working version was available.) Others too; see this post. Perhaps it's got something to do with how my host has disabled allow-url-fopen?

I have cURL enabled and working... in fact, ArticleBot works perfectly for me.

Would love to get this working, I've been anxious to see something like this for a while!

thedvs 02-19-2006 09:06 PM

awesome, perfect and very easy to manage.
thanks alot :)

edit: question...
anyway to get it so the feeds list in the order you add them and not by alphabetical feed name order?

docvader 02-20-2006 03:02 AM

Alphabetical is nice, makes it easy to peruse the list if you have a lot of them. I think this hack is extremely well done. Installed, working great on my forum. I assume that the difference between this one and the Inferno version, is that this one does NOT make new threads/posts...?

Nice job. Very well done.

Code Monkey 02-20-2006 03:17 AM

Nice, but why did you release the same hack twice under two different names?

docvader 02-20-2006 03:33 AM

That's what I'm trying to figure out (did not try the Inferno edition, I suspect that you use the inferno hack to add your rss feeds, and therefore, that hack might automatically post new threads, but, I'm not sure).

Anyone figure this out yet?

Aaron RV 02-20-2006 03:45 AM

Work fine but is not all the news visualized opening a new window, is it possible to do something?

thanks.

The other one is based off (and requires) Inferno RSS, so it creates posts in the forums as well as gives you the RSS Viewer.

This one is a "standalone" version that is apparently still based off the same Inferno RSS code, but doesn't require its installation... this way you can still have the RSS Viewer, but no posts being made automatically. Easier to install if all you want is the Viewer.

Alas, neither work on my host. And yet ArticleBot does. <shrug>

Omranic 02-20-2006 12:25 PM

very nice
but when storing Style CSS in file system the RSS News page has no customisations & no style CSS effect at all

any fix ?

Okay, how about just some confirmation that this hack does, in fact, use the PHP option allow_url_fopen? My (otherwise very permissive) host has identified this function as a security risk and has disabled it.

And so I am guessing that's why this hack doesn't work for me.

Now, I've asked for any feedback so that I may get it working. Ideally this hack would use cURL or one of the safe workarounds listed in the above wiki article. You know, to eliminate the possibility of the security risk it apparently presents. And also to allow this hack to work for me finally. :nervous:

Barring that, I'd be happy to compile my own version of PHP with allow_url_fopen enabled... as long as I get some response that this function is required for Atakan's hack to work.

Please? Anyone?

KW802 02-22-2006 09:50 PM

What's with JumpD's ArticleBot files being in there?

Even weirder is that those files weren't included in the initial upload. I reuploaded, hoping for some kind of fix/update, but this hack still doesn't work for me. So really, what's changed since then?

Atakan, if you're using any of JumpD's hard ArticleBot work, you've got to clear it with him first. Yes, integration with ArticleBot would rock my world, since it works great for me (while Inferno, and your hack, currently do not...) but respect for JumpD and his copyright is for more important!

Let me say that your hack is very cool and really admired. I wish I could get it to work. I'm assuming the inclusion of JumpD's ArticleBot files in your 2nd upload was just a mistake? Therefore, some communication would be appreciated right about now.

Code Monkey 02-23-2006 02:18 PM

I have still recieved no responce from my PM to this person. This is a scary thing to me since (not saying this is the case) anyone could theoretically include altered files in a hack for another hack and users can unwitingly upload them as a group and break another hack. Or they could include malicious code and guess who gets the blame.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. If I didn't know what I was doing, I'd have followed the instructions here and installed the included files... which would overwrite my the existing installation of two ArticleBot files.

Code Monkey 02-23-2006 02:40 PM

Brad has assured me that the author has been contacted and has removed my code. However, he (the author) never replied to my respectful PM.

voleibolmurcia 02-23-2006 03:19 PM

Its possible use this hack with spanish news? If the reply is yes, anyone knows where or how i find news in my language?

Thank u.

Atakan KOC 02-23-2006 08:06 PM

voleibolmurcia 02-24-2006 01:21 AM

Thanks Ataka_KOC ;)

Your hack es very nice, i know that my users will like a lot of it. ;)

shiva 02-24-2006 05:03 AM

I would say the same thing, nice and thanks. Think it's a bit better for my members, though I like ArticleBot a lot

holyboy 02-24-2006 06:20 AM

hi atakan

i get error messeage

Syndicated content not available

hata mesajı alıyorum senin verdigin rss ?rneklerini girdim bi t?rl? g?remiyorum

sebebi ne olabilir
http://1numara.org/newsview.php?do=4
adresinden bakabilirsin

Atakan KOC 02-24-2006 08:26 AM

Tralala 02-24-2006 02:12 PM

I had the same error and I posted about it above, twice.

Now this guy comes along, asks the same question as his first ever post, and you answer it quickly, in another language?

Am I being punk'd?

<sigh>

What language is your response in, please, so that I may try to find an online translator?

Err, that would be because that website timed out when you clicked the link here? Don't think this program will display a RSS if the link it points to doesn't work.

Tralala 02-26-2006 06:43 AM

Yeah, I'm definitely being punk'd.

Alien 03-01-2006 12:10 AM

This doesn't work for those saving CSS as files, can you fix this?

Rickie3 03-01-2006 03:10 AM

thanx *installed* my members are sure to be happy with this one
