Anonymous Posting

Someone should really really make an ANONYMOUS POSTING hack... so simple, yet no one has thought of it yet or done aynthing about it...

If someone makes it, ill even donate... (make it based on usergroup and forum permissions)

It has been thought over many times.

Might be some others are also working on it, but i already promissed i will also adapt my Post by Proxy hack for it (if i would get feedback on the kind of permissions needed).

MarcoH64, it seems like the most comprehensive method to use the Post by Proxy as 'anonymous posting' would be to have both USERGROUP and FORUM permission settings.

There were two versions of it for 3.0 and neither of us bothered to port. I didn't do it because the interest simply isn't there for such a comprehensive effort. The one I did had permissions set at board, forum, usergroup, and individual user level and allowed as much control as you now have for people posting in general. It also allowed you to undo the anonymous aspect in case you changed your mind later.

Under 3.0 it was a nightmare to install because queries had to be adjusted. I'm sure it would be easier in 3.5 but it's just not worth the hours to migrate over if only 19 people are going to use the thing.

We used it for our moderators to be able to moderate anonymously, which gave them the freedom to be normal members with thoughts and opinions that they could express because they didn't represent 'the management' when they posted as themselves.

Amy

Ok. Don't do it then.

Your post would be like me replying to a thread, "I don't plan to use this hack".

amykhar 03-02-2006 03:48 PM

I didn't mean it to sound that way. In fact, I was sort of implying that if somebody else wants to port it over, go for it. ;)

The Admin Zone uses this anonymous posting feature on their vB3.5 forum. You may ask them if they would like to share it.

The Admin Zone does it manually:

Ill play with the one I have installed and see if I can reverse engineer the installation process to make it useable for others.

the Sandman may have acquired it from ++++++

dinodonk 05-19-2006 03:13 AM

is there any other hack than ++++++? it make changes to db, i think it can be done just manipulating poster data before it's fetched to template.

lange 10-08-2006 08:24 PM

I'm looking for it me too.

I have a hack like this for my phpBB and my users LOVE it. I have tried -- unsuccessfuly -- to find something for VB. :(

ru55ian 03-07-2008 12:22 AM

Did anyone has come up with something like this since 2006?

logicuk 03-07-2008 12:15 PM

yes they did

vb 3.0 - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=93956

vb 3.6 - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=129108

Im still waiting for someone to release a version for vb 3.7

sunnycher 03-10-2008 03:33 AM

I used the latter one.
It's great but when you try to use it and post an attachment, it doesn't work.
I had to uninstall it.
