Countdown Timer for your users

(inspired by this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=107226)

This little AddOn gives your users the option to show a custom countdown timer at the bottom of their signature.

Features:
  • Fully configurable via UserCP (see screenshot)
  • BB-Code can be used for eventname and overmessage :)
  • fully phrased/templated, nothing hardcoded and so fully customizable
  • leading days or hours with a value of "0" are not shown
    (so it shows "42minutes" rather then "0days 0hours 42minutes")

Installation:
Painless:
  • Upload "plugins_usercountd.php" to ".../forum/includes"
  • Import the product .XML

DONE :)
That's it.
No template edits, no nothing :D

Usage:
Go into your UserCP -> Edit Options
On the very bottom you will find the options for the Countdown Timer.
Set it to whatever you like, if "Enable" is set to "Yes" the timer will automatically be shown on the bottom of your sig, set to "No" will hide/disable the time display :)

Have fun :)

Update 1.10
[high]IF YOU UPDGRADE FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION, BE SURE TO UNISTALL THE CURRENTLY INSTALLED ONE BEFORE INSTALLING THE UPGRADE![/high]
(unfortunately all events will be lost)
  • [FIX] Phrased the last three things that were not (Yes/No of the enable radio and main description)
  • [NEW] Added Usergroup Permissions for the countdown! :)
In the usergroupmanager it now has an area "User Countdown Permissions" where the admin can allow/enable or disallow/disable the countdown timer for each usergroup.

[high]If the usergroup permissions do not work, or even don't show up at all, you might need to rebuild the bitfield using this URL:[/high]

Wow. First post. I always get tingles when this happens.

Will install immediately. Nice idea.

EDIT: Installed. Awesome. Flawless.

I can use this for things, such as, well, counting down to my next date. Glad you put the "years" option in there.

-=Sniper=- 02-09-2006 10:46 PM

wow, excellent work dude!

Lineman28645 02-09-2006 10:58 PM

Excellent hack! :)

XtremeOffroad 02-09-2006 11:04 PM

Very cool, Now to figure out why sigs and timer arent showing.
Nothing to do with hack BTW.
Clicks Install.

Lineman28645 02-09-2006 11:07 PM

Question. Is there anyway we can make it so only admins or specified groups can use this feature?

Hmm, this can be added, yes.

I am currently hunting another flaw I just encountered.
On my live board it doesn't save the settings.... No idea why (yet), on my testinstall it does....

docvader 02-09-2006 11:26 PM

Working fine on mine, with Netscape and IE; it saved the settings, and is counting down appropriately.

Hellcat 02-09-2006 11:29 PM

Yeah, I have 1:1 "copy" of my live board on my laptop.... working fine there too, just not on the live thing....

XtremeOffroad 02-09-2006 11:38 PM

Working Great, Forgot about a hack installed to only allow 1 sig per post.
Oops my bad.
Now to decide what to countdown to, Valentines day or my surgery?
hmmmm both are on the same day. :disappointed: :disappointed:
I think I'll do VD :nervous: lol

GamerJunk.net 02-09-2006 11:52 PM

Now my signature and also timer isn't showing.

GamerJunk.net 02-10-2006 12:29 AM

Got it working now.

jugo 02-10-2006 12:38 AM

poprulz 02-10-2006 12:39 AM

Yes.
There has to be a signature (at least one char) and in the post's option "Show my signature" has to be checked.

This way it will not show to ppl who have the display of sigs disabled.

Sooner95 02-10-2006 01:30 AM

Woooohooo! Finally!

Click

CallieJo 02-10-2006 01:54 AM

I've been waitin so long for something like this...moreso like tickercentral and lilypie and 3fatchicks...but this will def work for me now...thanks BUNCHES!!!

Just one q: Is there anyway we can have an option to use a pic next to the countdown date? Pics would be editable by admin and if the user does not want a pic they don't have to select one. This would be cool cause I could use my own graphics for usages...then maybe I wouldn't have so many other tickers in my members siggies...which is a whole bunch of them....

Oooh...wait...one more q: Is it possible to have more than one countdown?

Thanks BUNCHES for all your hard work...I totally love this!!!!

Tulsa 02-10-2006 03:00 AM

So, what would a person need to do to get rid of that border around it?

Find in your Style Manager the template "usercountdown_display" and open it.
Remove all <fieldset> and <legend> tags -> gone is the border :)

Tulsa 02-10-2006 03:38 AM

Well now that didn't look very good. ;) I just wanted to get rid of the white border.

bashy 02-10-2006 05:28 AM

dan35 02-10-2006 05:37 AM

scottct1 02-10-2006 11:54 AM

I go and make my event, click save then go back in and look at my options again and it is blank.

Any ideas?

scottct1 02-10-2006 12:11 PM

What PHP version do you have?
Might be the same problem I have on my live board....

Hellcat 02-11-2006 11:41 AM

Is only the event empty or is nothing saved at all?

NuclioN 02-12-2006 09:06 AM

Hellcat i saw that it only works if you have a signature. If not the countdown is not showing up.

Yes, that's right.
The countdown only shows if there's a signature for that post.
So if someone disabled sigs showing it's also not shown.
That's on purpose, but might be enhanced in future updates :)

<font color="SeaGreen">Klick Install</font>

Great hack,thanks

Regards

BrandiDup 02-13-2006 02:43 PM

Can I kiss your feet? Seriously, thank you so much. I've been requesting this since I got vB last year. Installed flawlessly and my members LOVE it. Thank you sooo sooo much.

Is there a way to make more than one countdown? My members do a ton of countdowns on my forum and the tickers from the ticker sites really slow the load time (not to mention taking up tons of space) so I'd love to enable more than one countdown to get rid of some of the tickers.

You totally rock.

BrandiDup 02-13-2006 02:51 PM

One quick question. Is there any way I can keep the border around the countdown, but stop it from spanning the whole width of the signature? I'd like to have it around the text, but not span the whole width of the board.

Wachtmeister 02-13-2006 03:27 PM

Great, just 3 phrases cannot be translated:

Option to show a public countdown to a certain event
Yes
No

Maybe you can phrase these three in an update. Good work!
