GARS: Number of articles/reviews/tutorials in profile

This little plugin will display the number of articles, reviews and tutorials that a user has contributed in his/her profile. Note that it will display the sum of all the threads in the forums you have assigned to GARS and not of each category seperately. Although I am really busy these days, I made it for my new site and decided to share. It didn't take more than 5 minutes anyway :)

You need to have GARS installed in order to use this. GARS is not a free hack and it is made by The Geek.

Instructions

  1. Import the plugin XML
  2. Add in the MEMBERINFO template where you want it:
    HTML Code:

    Articles/Reviews/Tutorials: $userarticles[count]
  3. Save it and you're done!
Please, don't forget to click INSTALL if you used this.

This looks excellent but first of all I need the hack that allows users to write reviews/tutorials and articles! Where can I get this from?

Bad news chink... You have to buy it from the vb geek (he's registered here too).
However it doesn't cost much, only 15 pounds :)
It is sold at www.thevbgeek.com :)

Yah, where can you?

Edit: Nvm, sucks that it cost something... :(

Lea Verou 01-24-2006 02:11 PM

Just added a notice in the description so that others don't get confused as well. :)

vBulletin also cost something as same as your hosting...

Nice idea Michelle :) will install later tonight :)

Snake 01-24-2006 04:08 PM

/me clicks on install

Azhrialilu 01-24-2006 04:30 PM

It's worth the money, believe me...if you want a decent articles system, paying out the ?15 is money well spent :)

Great addon Michelle, will definitely be installing it tonight.

Thank you Azhrialilu!

Btw I found a small bug... I am not sure if that's the cause of it but if you edit a member's article then it shows you as the userid that posted it...
I'm trying to fix it but I'm not sure how...
I'll check the beta checkbox till then :(

The Chief 01-24-2006 04:36 PM

I rather use Drupal for all my page work, so much easier and looks alot more proffessional :)

Please let's not turn this in a GARS vs [insert-hacktitle-here] kind of thread. :(

JirQUEST 01-24-2006 05:33 PM

well, i am not sure if editing will show u as the userid who posted it (because i edited a lot more threads than that)... and my count is at 43, even though i can only find 37.

nice hack by the way.

nexialys 01-24-2006 05:45 PM

/me take a look at Michelle, lick his lips, and ....

... start writting this post...

this is a good idea... great hack.. easy to manage or even modify to make other kinds of displayed...

nota: can be done to add to the postbit btw... for the interested!

Lea Verou 01-24-2006 05:50 PM

I would never add this code to the postbit without some kind of optimisation!
It would add one query per post so if somebody had 100 posts per page (like I do) it would add 100 queries to the thread!!

It will not show you in the forum like the poster but in the database it shows my userid for the articles that I edited... :(

The Geek 01-24-2006 05:56 PM

hey, this is cool Michelle. Well done.
For the postbit thing... a gars module or vb plugin that fired on edit/creation/deletion of a gars thread could increase a user profile with the total.
I know its more complex and wasnt the goal, but I thought I would post anyway :)

Let me know when I get back home if I can help at all.

Have you also the Advanced Editing Options hack installed? GARS doesn't like it. :(

Lea Verou 01-24-2006 09:49 PM

Nope I haven't but I know somebody who has the same problem as you :(

oh of course it wont show in the forum. what i mean is, i edited more than 6 articles, and if what u say is the case, then i should be getting more than a count of 43 (and i mentioned before that i have an actual amount of 37 submitted articles). i hope that helps in your debugging.

Are you sure the author did not edit it after your edit? ;)

FleaBag 01-25-2006 01:34 PM

Tip top Michelle. Keep hacking! :P

Lea Verou 01-31-2006 07:20 PM

Updated to fix the bug that displayed edited threads as beeing made by the person who edited them and deleted threads as normal... Now the count should be accurate :)

defcon_420 04-11-2006 03:45 PM

will this work with GARS lite?

defcon_420 04-26-2006 09:08 AM

"CLICKS INSTALL"

Excellent little hack, great clear instructions and worked first time!

one little improvement if i could suggest maybe for a later version, if you could make Articles/Reviews/Tutorials a link to the users Articles/Reviews/Tutorials ;)
Oh hell i cant even write HTML so i dont mind if you ignore me or shun this message into the corner.

BTW i upgraded to GARS full version before i tried the plugin

Great job :)

Lea Verou 04-26-2006 09:18 AM

Awsome idea defcon!
However I am not sure that it's as easy as it seems (:o) and also I have no time at all :(

Lea Verou 09-17-2006 03:31 PM

Just wanted to mention that this works with 3.6 and GARS 2 as well :)

lexx27 09-29-2006 01:30 AM

great! :)

lexx27 09-29-2006 01:43 AM
