Allow registered users a buy option to sticky their thread

This mod allows you to present a buy option to registered users so that they may make a PayPal purchase to sticky their thread in its forum for so many days. See screenshots.

It basically works liks this: registered user clicks sticky this thread link, a link that appears for those forums you allow and only to the thread starter. User fills in the number of days to sticky thread, clicks submit, gets total price, clicks purchase, pays via PayPal, and PayPal's IPN kicks in, sending postback information to this mod, which automatically sticks the thread. After the number of sticky days passes, the vB scheduled task of this mod automatically unsticks the thread. If there's a purchase or problem with purchase, you'll get an email.

Of course, you need to use PayPal's IPN and have your board set to accept PayPal payments, so do a test run to ensure PayPal's IPN postback information is correctly processed. If you make any money from using this mod, I expect a cut. LOL, just kidding, but do click install should you use this mod. :D

ImportPassion 01-23-2006 12:44 AM

cool. could this be expanded to include other things like banning someone for a day or user title change etc.?

evenmonkeys 01-23-2006 12:59 AM

I like this. I'll give it a shot.

nhacso 01-23-2006 01:08 AM

Calorie, you can add the choice: Transfer Money to the Bank if don't like use pays via PayPal, and PayPal's IPN. Simple, my idea (use "Transfer Money to the Bank") help anyone don't have Credit Card but pay to Admin by Transfer Money to the Bank.

When select "Transfer Money to the Bank" will appear the form with (Name sender, Email sender, Address Sender, Phone Sender and Number Account of Sender in Bank). The End, the sender need complete transfer money to the bank, after Admin check & vertify information who the sender provide in last step. If all thing true and Admin received money, the thread is sticky, else is unstick.

0ptima 01-23-2006 01:32 AM

This is a cool idea and great for large forums!

tanyeri24 01-23-2006 01:40 AM

good idea whats about that:paying to get support like you paying to receipt an official statement from the forum owner etc...

GTAce 01-23-2006 01:45 AM

Oooh, I love the mod - is there any way to limit the number of stickies though?

I wouldn't want 100 stickies in my forums :p ...would be nice to be able to set a limit of, say 3 stickies at a time.

The Chief 01-23-2006 01:53 AM

thats an awesome mod, never thought of it, good job calorie!!

Barakat 01-23-2006 02:58 AM

Snake 01-23-2006 06:14 AM

Hey that's a good addition to have for my prenium members. Thanks!

sensimilla 01-23-2006 06:31 AM

Nice idea , thanks

nhacso 01-23-2006 10:29 AM

1. If can, calorie should add icons buysticky.gif before thread set sticky for distinguish between normal thread sticky with thread sticky pay by money.

2
If can more, calorie make the option to change new color of row which the thread pay by sticky stay on (same as the mod " Different Cell Color for Stickies") or make the title of Thread sticky pay by money have the color (example: red, blue, etc,...), bold, italic, the size is bigger.

3. Before the sticky ready expire 1 day or 2 day, should add new component help admin send a new PM automatic announce to the buyer. This idea make admin manage better the buyer (Ex: can remind buyer need transfer money soon to admin, can know the intention of buyer if they want continue to sticky thread pay by money or not).

having a hack that does this would make my days so much easier sometimes then going thru and changing someones profile everytime someone snipes them

Ziki 01-23-2006 01:25 PM

I don't think it is a good idea cause not all want to give money out just to make a thread sticky...

GTAce 01-23-2006 06:33 PM

Of course not everybody would...but there are a lot of people who will

Also, I'd still like to know something regarding this --

For resolve, I have a idea:
  • Make the thread sticky pay by money have a separate line with Normal Threads (same as the mod How To Separate Sticky and Normal Threads )

  • Or make the new template same as a Accouncement or banner -> move code sticky pay by money in, after put new template create in last step to below / above newthread.gif or newreply.gif. Important, must to dọ the sticky pay by money really really diffence with normal sticky. I think when have 100 sticky or more will not make the forum confusion. Of course, never have forum sticky thread untill 100 thread, alway sticky 10-15 thread is very a lots.

Important two, admin must receive money from the buyer by check money in acount the bank or in account paypal -> after the thread set sticky by admin, else is nothing (thread is still thread, it not set sticky, it still the normal thread as diffence thread in forum). So that, I think will not need limit number stickies set at a time.

MentaL 01-23-2006 09:46 PM

Fantastic idea.

mholtum 01-23-2006 11:18 PM

Nice thought.

browsehosts 01-25-2006 12:07 AM

can you modify this to allow someone to make a thread in a particular forum ( not sticky, just plain thread ) at a cost per thread he makes? Such as a land lord posting his houses for rent. Each time he puts up a house in the "housing for rent" forum category he needs to pay a certain amount?

lazyseller 02-08-2006 02:40 AM

im willing to donate 20.00 if u can make this per thread..

Diggazz 02-08-2006 10:15 AM

I just re-read how this works it may not need modifying

we may just need to think outside the square to get it to do what we are requesting

I will install it and try something

ramone_johnny 06-01-2006 12:51 AM

I need some help on this one - doesnt appear to be working on my site?

http://www.wiggle.com.au/wiggle/show...hp?p=62#post62

Thanks

echamberlain 11-23-2006 06:29 AM

This mod is what I have been looking for.

After testing it in our dev environment, I see that the make it sticky option isn't in a location most users will find.

Has anyone modified this to also put the sticky option in other places?

Crazy Serb 12-20-2006 02:50 AM

what I am wondering is can this mod be expanded for vb3.6 and for new calendar events -> so that every time a user decides to put up a calendar event he is prompted to pay a certain set amount per event before it is posted/goes live on a calendar....

now THAT would be sick.

bchertov 04-06-2007 04:58 PM

Does this work with 3.6.4 (or .5)?

Can you give more info on the integration with Paypal? Do you need a separate account with a different IPN from the VB paid subscriptions?

Thanks!

echamberlain 04-06-2007 05:06 PM

I haven't put this into production with customers yet, because I'm making some customizations (per forum ability to add additional text information on the purchase threads page explaining what they are buying), but my test purchases on 3.6.5 with the stock code work fine.

The mod uses the same Paypal information as the paid subscriptions.

0ptima 04-11-2007 10:32 PM

For those of you that have been using this hack, have members been buying stickies?

but would probably be useful in a website advertising section on your board, and if they want there advertisement standing out, then they can pay to have it stickied ^^ I think this is the only way id use it currently.

can this mod be used in chosen sections only, as i dont want it possible to sticky threads in all sections.

Thanks.

ArchangelX 04-18-2007 02:33 AM

I've marked as installed but I'd like to know the above as well before I use this. Thanks.

designBox 05-06-2007 10:35 AM

Me, as well :D

Stifler 08-27-2007 08:50 AM

I'm curious if this works on 3.6.8...

zippokid 09-12-2007 12:45 PM

It would be amazing if this could be used for other things, like purchasing an avatar or custom title for other users, etc.

StreetTriple 01-11-2008 09:35 AM

it's nice! it's available for 3.6.8.?

bada_bing 01-11-2008 04:15 PM

Wow this is cool would be nice if it used usergroup permission though so that only certain usergroups can use this feature...

hichew 01-13-2008 05:42 PM

is this mod available for 3.6 ?
