Introduction:
vB Pager is a text-based instant messaging system over your community between members. Users can exchange short & quick messages amongst each other. Unlike the regular private messaging system, the paged user is guaranteed to read your message & reply to it (if you choose this option) instantly & easily.

• Features:
  • Uses AJAX Technology to Send pager messages / Get pager messages / Add & Remove a member to buddy list / Add & Remove a member from Ignore list. (No Refresh Required)
• Main Features:
  • vB Pager Buddy List ?pop-up? window is used to keep track of the friends you wish to interact with. By going to your "vB Pager Buddies", you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online and offline, and be able to send them a pager message. Adding people to your buddy list also allow you to send pager messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by clicking the icon next to their names in the vB Pager Online Members Page or Clicking the Manage Buddies Link to add/remove members into your list.
  • vB Pager Ignore List ?pop-up? window lists are used for those people who's messages you wish not recieve from.
  • Received Pager Messages are Draggable Inline Popups.
  • Sending a message opens up a small window where you can type in message to be sent.
  • Optional Anonymity: you can choose to hide your username when paging another user on the forum, & define which Usergroup can utilize this option.
  • The window comes in with a built-in character counter to enable the user to keep track of the characters typed.
  • Logs of all incoming and outgoing pager messages ?Inbox/Sent Items? member has, can be viewed and deleted.

How to Install:

• Simply download the zip file, Unzip it to a directory on your computer and follow the steps from the README.txt
• Remember to Change vB Pager Pemrissions from the Usergroup Manager.
• Make sure that you got your forum url filled in the Help Site Name / URL / Contact Details under your vBulletin Options. See this post
• Make sure that you got your forum directory name filled in the Forum Directory Name under your vB Pager Options.
• Please Read This Post befor asking for help.

How to Uninstall:

• Simply remove all uploaded files, revert your edited templates, and uninstall vB Pager Product from the Manage Products under the Plugin System in your ADMINCP.

Known Issues:

• Permissions are not being inherited from secondary usergroups.

  • Location for vB Pager Window will be ignored and will always display the current location of the normal forum pages bypassing vB Pager activities. (LOCATION_BYPASS).

  • vB Pager hack does not like the use of custom color scrollbar, so you if you are using a custom css for the elements of a scroll bar, remove it from your css.
  • Make sure that you got the Latest version of IE.

• I'm getting a java script error with permission denied?
  • Mak sure that you're accessing your forum through the same URL you got in the forum url under your vBulletin Options.
    If your forum url is http://www.domain.com/forum then you should use the same url when viewing your forum.
    Viewing your forum through http://domain.com/forum will give the error, so use www.

btw, as you have more control with vb Pager than with the PM system, you can deactivate this last one and only work with vb Pager... ;)

I think of a PopUp that comes up once you have a new message in which you can reply to that message and things like that.

it is kinda like a realtime chat MrNase ... the only detail is that it doesn't show the last messages read/writen.... i suggested that to UAE long time ago... as it have now history in the system, i suppose it will be easy for a coder to add that feature...

for the popup you talk about, it IS actually that... you receive a popup when you receive a message.. the popup is activated by AJAX... if your browser does not allow it, the popup will show when you load a new page.

is it integrated with the private message system or got nothing to do with it?

it is a complete independant system... i think the first posts explain it all...

I can't confirm the first one, I can see the statistics.
Second thing: Setup the extension via the vBPage options and give 'vB Pager AJAX Check Period' a value. I set it to 30 (30 seconds).

Some things I noticed:
The popup is misaligned with Opera.. It's too far down on the website.

We need some confirmation after a message is send. When I click the button to send a new pager message to user X and the new window comes up, there's no confirmation at all when the message is send. It only switches back to the list of online users and at first I wasn't sure if the message was send or not.

Opera is not following a single W3C protocol, so it occurs that Opera gives a lot of troubles to the web designers... contact the Opera guys and tell them you paid for their browser and it is having problem displaying Compliant XHTML! -- this is my 2? btw, not UAE or others'..

... in ICQ, MSN, Yahoo etc, you never have a single confirmation that the message is sent... this system is based on these others, trying to mimic them at best... i'm not sure that loading a new page to confirm a sent message is very useful... maybe a vote would give an idea!

Another small question. How do i call the page, where i can select more users to page?

I called the pager from memberinfo until now and from the navbar.

Memberinfo let me send a message to the current user and calling the pager from navbar let me view my pager inbox. But how can i call the page to select users i want to page?

in some places AND in your actual buddy list (vb pager one) you have the small select on top, where you manage the buddies...

i got an error when trying to set up permissions :(

This is maybe not a bug, but it is a small problem, if you use vbAdvanced. The attached screenshots shows my vbadvanced homepage on www.webgurus.de. My forum is on www.webgurus.de/forum/.

I you call the pager from the root (www.webgurus.de) a window with an error opens. If you call the pager from the forum everything works fine.

Maybe you could solve this in you fantastic add-on. Its really fun for my users :) Some asked me how much each instant message costs ;)

your error is related to some other hack: vbspace blah blah... sorry, can't help... read the error correctly!

bah, no big problem, UAE forgot to add the base url to the link... will be corrected when he come back from the deads... (he is exhausted. poor him, worked all night for the last 2 months for this rebuild!)

not really... if you want the system to use less server, you apply a larger delay for updating the AJAX... btw, if you have 10000 users using the system at the same time, you don't have to worry about serverload, you already need a dedicated server for 10000 users... ;)

This works for members but for admin it doesn't.It says they have messages but when you go to the inbox there is nothing there.Permissions are all correct.

I actually had something similiar, it was stuck on the sent items...

I closed the browser window and opened a new one. Since then I haven't had it again. Trying to replicate it though to figure out what its doing :)

I logged into someone else account and still didnt get it.so it is not an admin issue.

I cleared cookies too.

Double check the template edits, specially the footer edit.


Only problem I'm having is with the

condition in the pager_newpager

I've double check all my usergroup settings and haven't been able to find why it isn't displaying right. I've removed the if condition (start and end) and it works fine. So, maybe it's a typo in the condition.

Double checked everything,still nothing :( when someone sends me one it says I have a new one in the pager messages but they are un readable.

Yeah, I just got it again. Closed that browser window, and opened a new one. No error, saw the page. The javascript error in the corner just says "permission denied"
