Im so glad I found this site,,it has been a tottal headache for a newbie,so far i purchased a
VB lic
registed my domain
purchased my hosting
downloaded vb
now im editing files in config and im lost,how do you find db info to put in etc..im so lost, i have read manuals, where do i retrive info to add to editing:

etc,,i edit if i can find correct info to put in...apologize if im a pain,,but first board for me in vb

You will need to create a new database and user/password with permissions to that database from your server control panel.

If you don't know how to do that, you would need to ask your host for help on that.

After you have created the new database, only set the correct values for dbname, username & password. Leave all other settings how they are, except technicalemail, which you can set to your own email, or another mail you use for running your server.

marco, after looking thru CP for host,, I found that last night this is still raw to me,,but i like to use my mind,lol,,im looking to make my forum stand out from the rest,,people have told me,,dont use vb you can't do anything(BULLS..) they just dont wanna learn,,& don't know what there talking about so im going to prove to them there wrong,,,,it might take me awhile to learn different themes etc,,,but im determined to do it,,im not computer illiterate,,i just dont know code & vb,,thats why i joined here,,but then when i saw hacking,,,,lol,,i was wondering about it,,,,,,but after reading hack = a code to convert or change ,,lol,,,,,i belong to asta,,,,,anyway the name of my forum is thebestdamnpokerforumperiod.com......so the name alone forces me to have a nice forum,,so im hoping that people here will bare with me and guide me to succed,i appreciate the response,,and im going to try and get things done,but as an admin/mod of other forums its nice to know you can get help,w/o someone putting in a link,and saying read,read,read.

Ok in my data base for host,,it says MySgl8,,do I leave the (8) out in config ?

You will have to use the full name, user & pass for the database.

at least im not the only new person around here lol

luckily, i've just taken over the forum/website so its already there for me.

however, we're on version 3.0.6 at the moment. and i need to upgrade to 3.5.2!

ok a lil confused on 2 issues:
1st one : my host gives me this (mysql8.ixwebhosting.com)

do i put ME@mysite.com in (dbname) ?

where do i see password,,I do not see that I created a database on my host w/password,,,,,,i read what marcoH gave me,,but im confused,,but one day hopefully i'll be helping others,,,this is some fun stuff :) glad im old so i have a lil patience left,,,lol
