Suggestion: Watching hacks section

Hi, I love the site and have no complaints about it. I have one request or suggestion rather. I would like to be able to have a section that will be for "Watching Hacks" along with "Installed Hacks" on the usercp. The watching hacks would be a place to put hacks that aren't yet installed, but are planned to be installed or for hacks that one would like to wait until a hack moves out of beta or has more installs before installing.

This is pretty much what suscribing to threads is for.

I use a subscribed threads folder called To Be Installed? for this exact purpose, then when I install I move the thread to another folder called Installed Hacks.

It works for me, but then again I think I probably have about 50% of the subscribed threads folders in my profile as I like to file things in easy to access places.

I'm planning to do a whole "Favourite Threads" kind of system in 3.5 shortly; Perhaps I can get it installed on here when we go to 3.5 :)

Would it allow multiple folders though? I don't want to get all disorganised. ;)

It will work on 2 different methods; It will do something similar to what my plugin "Tagged Threads" does, and also allow you to sort them how you wish, i.e. in folders, with sorting order abilities like "username" and "postdate" etc etc...

I guess that would work nicely then :)

Chris M 12-15-2005 09:30 PM

Well I've gotta take it out of my head and make it first :p

I'll plug into the PC and you can transfer the code etc across to me if you want ;) :p

He needs a new USB cable to do that. The last time he tried; it got burnt. :p

peterska2 12-15-2005 11:11 PM

Thats why I have a built in ethernet port instead ;)

Borgs8472 12-15-2005 11:59 PM

I'm not compatible! I'm not compatible! Nooo! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Don't panic, I might have a converter somewhere.

I do the same...this would indeed be a nice thing to have.

I have a folder called Watch that I keep all my "maybe intall one day", "get back to it", etc. Works great.

Hmm, thats actually a decent idea and good way to keep track of hack threads you want to install but not need to find all over again.

I'd like to see this here. :)

soniceffect 12-17-2005 08:22 AM

I also would love to see that here ... not just on the hack forums either, but also for use on threads in Modification discussion, as there are a lot of 'in progress' stuff that tends to go in there before release........

In your case perhaps.
- I use that to keep track of all the hacks I make to supply support when there is need.

To keep track / installed hacks
- hit install.

To each their own. I know that I get e-mails on the progress of hacks when they do updates hitting install.

Maybe the install feature could be extended to include a watching feature .. this way when the coder is sending email regarding updates, it can be sent to the watching members too ... At the end of the day this in my opinion is what it would be used for. Waiting till there`s a more stable version, waiting till a hack is out of beta etc etc ...

Just an idea :)
