Has anyone purchased XBOX 360?

I promised my boys (7 & 6 year old) that I would purchase XBOX 360 if they get all A's on their report card. Well they got A's; however, I have not purchased the product yet.

I'm interested in the $400 version.

Has anyone purchased XBOX 360? If so what do you think of it?

Have you experienced any problems as have been reported?

How are the graphics compared to the original XBOX? Is there really a B I G difference?

Does anyone have any idea when a new bundle will be out? For example, I would like to purchase the product with a game -- just as they offer with the original XBOX consoles.

------------------

I'm also looking to purchase a plasma/lcd HDTV tv.
42" is good enough for me.
(THIS IS FOR ME-NOT MY KIDS)

Any comments?

I want to play XBOX 360 games on it.
Maybe, add the pc to the system.

thank you

Graphics are way better then any other console.........if you connect it to a HDTV capable TV.

one of the reported problems (lawsuit pending) ... the power supply and central processing unit in the Xbox 360 overheat

yea, I seen some of the higher-end bundles ... costly
some of these bundles come with M-rated games ... my kids are not allowed to play M-rated games

I have a son of 5 years old now, and i am looking for a good reason to buy him a XBOX-360. I am afraid however that there are not many games suitable for his age available. So i guess it will have to be another console. :(

Nintendo Ds?

Princeton 12-07-2005 06:05 PM

My sons currently have XBOX, PS2, and GameCube (all given to them from their aunts/uncles) ... we only allow E games (some T games are not that bad)

I don't play any of the games but I am just itching to play the XBOX 360.

I am afraid that it will be a GameCube. Most suitable (educational???) games seems to be for that platform.

My kids have the gamecube and that is the one they have the most fun on. Actually, they have two; one at my house and one at their mother's house. We also have the XBOX, Playstation and PS2. We have more games for the Gamecube though. My oldest son is 13 and he buys games with his allowance to augment the library mostly. Almost all the games we have are E(veryone) and T(een) rated games. I do own a couple M(ature) games on the consoles, mainly the XBox. We will be buying an XBOX 360 next year in Spring or Summer.

Next year however, Nintendo is going to be releasing the Revolution which will play all the Gamecube games and its own using their DVD drive. It will also be able to download any game from previous Nintendo consoles from the internet.

If you want true edutainment games though, the PC is the best place for that. Not a lot going in that direction in the major console companies. I do know that in the US we have one company call LeapFrog that makes educational game systems. You might see if they have those in Europe as well.

Wait...it gets better...check this one out -> http://www.theinquirer.net/images/ar...thousedown.pdf

apparently the first gen xbox has issues as well...

Wayne Luke 12-07-2005 06:26 PM

All first ship consoles have issues. Overheating is the most common, the PS2 had fan issues, etc... All it results in is retooling the cooling, issuing new machines to the people who had problems and slipping the fixes into the production line. It really isn't a big deal.

GAMECUBE is by far the best suited for youngsters.
However, I suggest LEAPFROG products for educational "games".

Also, to feed your child's mind, I suggest you take him to museums / libraries / zoos / etc. You need to shower him with as much knowledge as possible the first 6 years of their life. This is the time that a child's brain is developing.

well the enhanced xbox 360 with higher quality graphics requires high definition tv's to see the quality improve. without an HDTV the quality is the same as the original xbox. this also applies to the upcoming PlayStation 3.

also if you are looking for family friendly games do not expect them available for some time for the XBOX 360 because the main title launch is meant to drawn the main fan base, hardcore game playing teenage boys. Microsoft has vowed however to make the XBOX 360 more family friendly than the XBOX with more titles to appeal to families. this may also explain the more sleek and nonintimidating look unlike the goliath that is the XBOX. actually they were quoted in the New York Times saying they even are going to advertise to housewives to get in on the action.

Corriewf 12-07-2005 08:13 PM

Housewives? Do those still exist? I want one.

Yeah I would be pissed off. It seems that the consumers have been getting the shaft as of late with all consoles.....

I never prepay anymore.

Well if I was married I guess I would be. Can I be a HouseSpinster instead?

And no I've not got a (or is it an?) xbox 360, nor do I plan to get one. I mean why spend more money on a console when you can't play solitare or minesweeper on it?

100,000 layoff announcements in the last week, including Ford and GM. Major Retailers being sold off. Interest Rates raising. Uncontrollable fuel costs. Durable Goods sales down. Single Family Home Sales dropping. Of course, inflation is the same as far as the government is concerned but prices continue to rise.

All these do not lead to a good economy.

I agree..... :ermm:

The layoffs do not scare me. The American motor companies is a given from poor business pratices. Interests rates raising is a good sign actually. They are the first to lower when the economy is tanking. The stock market is doing great ( although I recently lost A LOT in my shares). The ratio of inflation to the dollars strength internationally along with average income increases is what concerns me the most.

Inflation is the main reason minimum wage hasnt been increased in 8 years or so.
