Explorer Destroyer

Has anybody successfully gotten the script to work with their VB? I'm trying it out today.

God, I like Firefox over IE, but don't piss off the literally 90% of web users who do use it. My current design has a small message on the forum home page if you're using a non-compliant browser, and my next design has an even smaller notification in the footer that, by its coded definition through CSS, only appears if the browser doesn't support CSS properly.

I run a web design forum and even my user pages still prefers IE by about 75%.

LOL @ pissing off IE users. I'm not going to do the one that complete blocks them, just puts that nice message at the top of the site when someone visits using IE. If too many people whine, I'll put up the one that blocks them. I'm an evil admin sometimes. :)

I added it to my vbadvanced cmps portal page, and it was all of ten minutes before people were +++++ing about it. Many of them were already using firefox to view the page and were still getting the splash page. I took it back off within a couple hours, and just put up a referral button in its place.
Not really making any money with it, but at least its not pissin off my users now.

Bit lame to me.
95% of my site uses IE

Also, why the hell would someone want to limit their own site by dictating what people can and can not use.

Limiting choice is what drives away business.

For some reason it's ass backward thinking to me. :cross-eyed:

weird @ carpefile...

i put it up on my vbadvanced and only the IE people are seeing the little banner thing at the top.

as far as dictating what people use, doing my real job (MIS Tech) and seeing what people can do with IE makes it worth it for me. until MS releases IE 7, i will encourage everybody i know and don't know in any way shape or form to use Firefox.

Encouraging them is fine. Badgering and forcing them is not. Users respond to rewards, not punishment.

Warning system hacks disagree!

Do you automatically warn 90% of your visitors the instant they view your site?

Borgs8472 11-13-2005 12:03 AM

Nah, mostly my members handle that!

Which goes against anything a web developer is taught, as well.

Large sites can't even afford to alienate NS4 customers (if they do 1,000,000 transactions a day, and 1,000 are from NS4 customers, that's a waste of $$$$$).

If your posting base uses IE whatever you do, don't alienate them. It's the quickest way to destroy your site.
