Protest: X has updated HIS hack

I suggest that the text is changed. It's not fair for the female coders to say "X has updated his hack". It should say "X has updated his/her hack".
Thanks. :p :p :p

TyleR 11-10-2005 07:49 PM

there's hardly any female coders here..maybe 3 or 4 active ones, compaired to like 100's of male ones..And to boot, its only in one place..sheesh..

Lea Verou 11-10-2005 07:54 PM

So what?? We should ignore them? Is that fair?

Oh, and how do you know that there are only 3-4? As far as I'm concerned there is no gender profile field...

TyleR 11-10-2005 07:56 PM

names are a flat give-away..males dont get names like amykhar, Rose, etc...lol.

You're just making friends everywhere today, eh? ;)

Anyway, you can't say there are only 3 or 4 because I can think of at least '3 or 4' people on here who simply haven't reveleaded their gender yet and are quite active in releasing code.

... and some of them purposely don't give their real names so they aren't hounded.

99SIVTEC 11-10-2005 08:00 PM

Wow, this is the worst post ever.

amykhar 11-10-2005 08:00 PM

O.K. That's the last straw. I will not code another line until that is changed. In fact, I may file a gender discrimination suit. I feel so unappreciated. ;)

Yup, i feel the love going round :D

and 3 or 4 was an exageration..it was just a comparison..out of 100 coders, 3 or 4 will be female... :ermm:

I didnt say it wasnt fair, nor did I say it was..its only in one spot on this whole board..and from what I found, its in the update email..no big deal..im no womens rights activist, but its getting a tad-overboard.

Lea Verou 11-10-2005 08:09 PM

lol Amy :p
99SIVTEC lighten up a bit! Gosh!

TyleR 11-10-2005 08:14 PM

But, I guess if it means that much to you lady coders, i think it should be done..

akanevsky 11-10-2005 08:15 PM

I agree, the phrase must be amended.

Brad 11-10-2005 08:21 PM

It will be fixed.

davidw 11-10-2005 08:22 PM

I've never understood why it isn't "X's hack has been updated"

Oh, good one..never woulda thought of that..would make more sense :)

FASherman 11-10-2005 08:34 PM

Why does it really matter? Any serious coder spends so much time in front of their computer that, genitalia aside, they're completely asexual. :glasses:

If that be true, maybe "X has updated its hack?" then?
However, I do not agree with you.

BTW:
"has updated their hack"

Quote:

their is a possessive pronoun; there, an adverb meaning "in the specified place"; they're, a contraction of "they are." "They're sitting over there in their seats."
In linguistics and grammar, a pronoun is a pro-form that substitutes for a noun or noun phrase with or without a determiner, such as you and they in English. The replaced phrase is the antecedent of the pronoun. A pronoun used for the item questioned in a question is called an interrogative pronoun, such as who.

For example, consider the sentence "John gave the coat to Alice." All three nouns in the sentence can be replaced by pronouns to give: "He gave it to her." If the coat, John, and Alice have been previously mentioned, the listener can deduce what the pronouns he, it and her refer to and understand the meaning of the sentence.

Way back before time began I was:

HarryButt {TPG} ? The Porcelain Gods
>X< Apocalypse ? X-Men

I was playing Tribes I in the alpha and beta stages with many of the Devs (Got Milk?, and others). Helped in Dev of Shifter Mod, Ultra_Renegades w/ URG_THRASH, Ultra_VX w/ kissie_POO (UltraVXAuthor), and tons of other stuff long forgot.

There was about 2-300 of us back then 15-25 clans.

Played for 5 years.

Played T2 - for 30 min, then wint to BF1942 / DC - Now play BF2 and Diablo2 (old game), Run an old text/telnet/BBS game called TradeWars2002.

Brad seriously consider adding FASHerman's BBcode tag in the site, I think it will be very useful

haha I hear ya on that. I had never played t1 when I bought t2. I tried it for a week and hated it, then a friend showed me t1 and I fell in love with it. I still play today :p

There's a few groups working on revamping t1 right now. One group is basically trying to replace all the graphics with up-to-date stuff. (this is the one I want most to succeed).

RenWerX (the renegades dev team) is actually making their own game using the engine that garagegames made. (the same one t2 uses I think... torque? tge/tse)

Then there's Legends which was also on torque, but it never really took off.

kinda sad.. if only vivendi/vug has supported vengeance and fixed its bugs. :/

anways, do you post at tw?

Bra burning could be fun. Will you guys burn your jock straps too? Seriously, I could care less about the language of the template. But, it's fun to yank you guys around a bit and teach you to be a bit more sensitive to our feminine abilities.

We're guys. We'll burn anything with the right excuse. Jocks, boxers, Terrell Owens jerseys.

But one thing you don't have to teach me about are feminine abilities. I have a wife who has already done that. She is the single most capable person I know, whether its running a household while I travel 5 days a week, or saving lives on a daily basis at the hospital.

I deal with servers, SANs, routers and the like because I can't stand human beings. I have no idea how she does it.

In case anyone is wondering, that image is significant. In the UK, (!) is used for people with difficulty hearing, like me, in closed captioning to indicate sarcasm - the kind of thing we can't pick up from tonal qualities.

If an exclamation point is used to indicate sarcasm then what is used to indicate excitement?
