vBJournal for VB3

So,

Spence asked on our site for a such system, it seems some people had a project to do it, but nobody really works on it

Has someone began a serious project ?

Thanks to answer, else I'll create a new one

I think you`ll find lots of Journal talk and very little Jounral action.. I think anybody that actually gets a journal hack released would have a winner on their hands..

AN-net 04-14-2004 10:06 PM

i can quickly make this(not like a few minutes but maybe like by 2morrow night).
i have alrdy started it:)
questions:
do you want a rating system?
do you want a comment system?

any other suggestions please post here:)

I think a Ratings & Comments System are a must for this kind of hack :)

VBDev 04-14-2004 10:36 PM

What have you already done An-Net ?

Sure you can finish it quickly ?

AN-net 04-15-2004 01:22 AM

i am currently working on the comment system.

AN-net 04-15-2004 01:56 AM

ok im done with the comment system

sabret00the 04-15-2004 01:52 PM

wow, will it be able to port ryangels entries an-net?

spence2 04-15-2004 02:07 PM

AN-net, here is a copy of my post from grog6's site:

Now, for this proposed hack:
Admin grants permissions to view journals by usergroup.
Admin grants permissions to create journals by usergroup.
Admin names & sets up multiple instances (types, kinds, categories, whatever) of journals.

For example: "JOURNALS" "SHORT STORIES" "DEAR DIARY" "FAMILY TRIPS"

In the navigation there should be a dropdown list instead of the present "JOURNALS" link.
Basically, the categories regardless of their names are just: Journal 1, Journal 2, Journal 3, Journal 4
as each is just a duplication or multiple instance of the original "journal" in terms of presentation.
A link is presented on these pages for members to "CREATE THEIR OWN" based on which category they are viewing.

Members add entries into their journals, designating whether they are:
Public (all members may view and comment)
Public no comments (all members may view but comments are disabled)
Buddies (only members on their buddy's list may view & comment)
Buddies no comments (buddy's may view but comments are disabled)
Private (no viewing or commenting)

WYSIWYG submission form with preview option for entries.
Photos allowed (thumbnails?)
Attachments allowed
Word wrap
Users may edit or delete own entries
Link in user's profile to various submission pages
(example: add to journal
add to short story
add to dear diary
add to family trip)

STYLE: templates & .css that may be ammended by admin and incorporated into all styles available on board

Pagination for both entries, entry lists and comments.
Number of comments display.

There should be links in postbit (including legacy postbit) to view user's journals if they exist.

Admin can delete journals.
Admin can view/delete/edit rights for all entries.
Admin allow/disallow BBcode in entries & comments.

Perhaps tables could be added to memberlist to show categories with icon links to journal pages.

This gives you roughly an idea of what this hack would be...a lot of work, I know!

And, yes, if this could import the entries from Ryangel's vb2 hack, all would be terrific in hackland!

Thank you so much for taking up this project.
No doubt, you will have many grateful "customers."

ok about admin's editing/viewing/and deleting entries. well i have decided that all entries labeled private may not even be viewed by administrators cause i believe if something is private it deserves to stay that way i.e. private messages.

um attachments sounds like much but i guess ill think on it

WYSIWYG i dont really have any experience with but if someone cares to explain to me how to use it will gladly code it:)

instead of using buddylist i though the journalist could designate for each entry who may see that entry by userid

i really wasnt thinking categories this time around but user's can title their journal's as they please or leave them blank and it use their user name.
