Stopping Bots..

I have searched these forums for various anti-bot mods and have come across a few, My issue is mostly from foreign IP address posting illicit material on my forums, I have every human verification option set to max, I have recently made it so that all new users are set to moderation before they are accepted to the forums. This has never been an issue in previous years but is way out of control now...

Any ideas?
Thnk You...

im using nospam! it seems to work for bots but some people do it manually and there is noway to stop them, always add the spammer website to your cencor list so he wont come back.

Kaas....
Have a look at this hack.....Prevent certain time Zone registration.

Edit the text *Invalid Time Zone" of the message received to *Thank you for registering".
The person or bot registering assumes registration happened...but no registration takes place.
A human will realise no registration happened...but won't know the reason why.
Ban as many time zones as you need.

Works for me....plus I use "No Spam" in addition.

This would be great, however I do have users from other parts of the world...I have the built in "Spam Management" running now along with "nospam" I will let you all know how it works..
If you come up with anything else, let me know please..

Thank you for your help so far..

This is an obvious BOT, my users do not need to see Viagra advertisements nor do they care... It is tedious to go through every user and post, but It is part of maintaining a functioning board..

For the "Registered User" Almost every function of the board is disabled, although this helps lessen the amount of possible spam a standard registered user can do it does penalize those who are not on your boards for spam reasons..

I also have in the greeting e-mail and PM a list of board rules about spamming and solicitations, however many of these bots and spammers either don't read it or don't care..

It is sad really how things have turned in to a virtual "junk mail" system with them..

99% of them select GMT-12

there are no inhabited areas in that timezone, install that mod and ban that timezone, you will see your bot registrations drop to almost nothing

the beauty of it is that legitimate users dont have to jump through any extra hoops

Good tip about the time zone.

Block .ru domains and you'll also knock a chunk of them out straight up.

All times are GMT. The time now is 08:24 PM.
