The BIG question every forum owner has to ask.... Would you sell your forum?

The problem with forums is they require a lot of effort, a lot of time, and a lot of hosting costs. But they also rarely earn a lot of money. So they generally are worth less than other sites :erm:

That said, there are some very valuable forums as well. Some probably worth 7 figures.

So would you ever sell your forum?

usually, what is on sale is the membership and the content... not the forum itself.

you can ask for sponsoring when your forum is populated, because the advertisers will be teased by the views and hits provided by popular forums...

and the content can be teasing some forum owners interested to add that content to their own site...

From what I have seen the people sell their domain, images, members, posts... everything. The complete package.

Literally they are giving new ownership to the entire forum.

I hope this makes sense.

sure it is clear... i just listed the reasons why someone would "buy" such a site... a domain worth nothing just for the name... the "dot com" period is passed...

To be honest I'm not really sure the ".com" period has passed. I'd still say domains using the ".com" are more popular for selling than another extension. Simply because people are so used to that address extension now. And most of the very popular sites out there on the net use .com

I'd still say .com is the extension to go for when creating a new domain name if you can get it first before any other extension like .org etc.

Anything is for sale, but to most devoted forum admins their forum is worth more to them than to a potential buyer.

I don't want to sell my forums and I have quite a few of them. :)

If someone offered more than what I have put into it, I would. Im still earliey enough in it were i could restart.
