GARS: vb.org installer/release add on

hehe. Its back (and improved). :)

Find yourself hanging around vb.org all day in the release sections simply because you find them so sexy? Wish you could apply that same look with those same tick boxes to your forums? Hold on to your hats because now you can.

With this add on for GARS PRO and GARS LITE, you can create a new type to apply to your forums: the Installs/Release type. With this new fangled functionality you get:
  • Those neat tick boxes
  • Last update, release date, vb version, mod version, etc...
  • Install counter
  • Install/uninstall buttons (that work!)
  • Install counts on forumdisplay (heck, it even lets you know if you have installed it!)
  • The ability for the author to see if someone replying to the thread has installed.
  • Release manager that lets you view all users that have installed your release

What you don't get:
  • A send update function. If there is a screaming need, ill do it when I get time.
  • A list of all your installed stuff on your profile. I may do that if there is a screaming need to.
  • The annoying thing at .org where you have to re-edit your post to put in the version number and such

But wait, theres more! Since this is a GARS module set, you get much much more:
  • Multiple pages
  • GARS modules (i.e. reviews, TOC's, ratings, blahblahblah)
This package is a bit more than just 1 file. It includes a new table, 3 new files and some additional templates. It also includes a product installer that will install these items as well as create a new term set, new type, new template set, register the modules and basically clean your curtains.

Change Log

17.02.06 Updated to 1.5
  • Added a Release Manager page that shows you all users that have installed (you can get there by clicking the install count)
  • Added ability to see which posters have clicked install
  • Fixed a few bugs
17.02.06 Released
To install/upgrade:

Upload all files from the download package to the correct forum location.
Import the product-gars-install.xml file (choosing to overwrite existing install is upgrading)

Edit your postbit template and after
PHP Code:

$post[reputationdisplay

Put
PHP Code:

$post[gars_installed

Toodles, click install and nJoy.

WOW, nice! :)

I just checked it out on my local tets install - the phrases don't seem to work....
The GARS phrases show up fine, the Install-Type phrases don't, all blank spaces where text is supposed to be.

Any idea?

[edit]
never mind, I opened and re-saved one of the phrases in the phrase manager and suddenly they appeared. :)

Now checking out if and how this could be used on my forum :D

Yea, I should have mentioned this in the first post: A couple users have claimed that you need to rebuild languages or as Hellcat mentioned, edit and save a phrase for the languages to be rebuilt.
I have no clue why (it reminds me of installs in the 3.0x days) but if I can find the answer ill sort it ;)

ps. Please click install if you installed it :)

Thanks

This is really cool, great to see this downloadable here and I can use this a few private sites I run!

The feature: A send update function.
Very much wanted, that's how I keep up to date with things I installed here! I hope future releases include it :)

Tnx for sharing!

Will do Floris. Thanks.

Ill most likely add the feature to be able to email and/or PM. At least as it stands now you can browse everyone that has installed (even if they dont reply in a post)!
