From my browser? If so yes.
When I log into google, it says that error beside my sitemap.

I have some questions:

1: Do i have to create an account at https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps?

2: If yes, what should I enter as the site if my forum is located at www.example.com/forum? (Should I enter www.example.com or www.example.com/forum)?

3: Would this be the correct sitemap location "www.example.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz" even though Google wants you to place it in the highest level directory (which would be www.exampl.com)?

rareclownfish,

please PM me your sitemap URL.

forum_maniac,
1. it's not required to use sitemaps, but strongly suggested
2. sitemaps submission should work with both locations. however, it's better to use top-domain site URL, since it will allow you to see site crawling stats
3. yes, www.example.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz is correct, because it doesn't include URLs from top-level, only starting with /forum/.

Fawlty Adder 05-09-2006 02:43 PM

hi , what does it mean 'CHMOD 777 the 'vB-root/vbseo_sitemap/data/' folder'

is CHMOD 777 a type of command name? how do I run it ... ?

thanks

iojam 05-09-2006 02:57 PM

Fawlty Adder,

this means to change access permissions for the file/folder. You can do this using your FTP software when files are uploaded.
0777 means allow to read/write/execute for all.

More info here:
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...en&q=chmod+ftp

Hi iojam,

thanks for the answers, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have now installed the vbSEO Sitemap Generator and created the sitemap account. I see MSNBots and YahooSlurps crawling my forum constantly, but all the GoogleBot is looking at is index.php. None of my forum sites is indexed at Google even though the forum is up since January and vbSEO is installed for a month.

1: Is this a reason for concern or should I just wait?
2: Google says it downloaded my sitemap six hours ago on May 9th, but it also says my homepage was last accesses on April 29th. Again, do I just need to wait?
