If you right click / and select "properties" on the images, are the links showing correctly? And are the images showing greater than 0 in size?

Upload those files (post_old.gif, post_new.gif) into this directory...

I think you have the .png files in that directory.

You will need to change post_old.png and post_new.png to .gif's

Just make sure the images in that directory are the same name, with the same extension, as you see in that link.

NO, there is no need to change PNGs to GIFs.

Ensure you have latest version of product installed and none of product templates are modified.
