Thanks Ted.

On another note, have you noticed any issues when mass importing? I'm trying to import around 800 products and it kept hanging after just 2 - so I split the file in to 2 and now the first file hangs on the first product, and the second gets to about 80 and also hangs.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Our test file had about 5 products which isn't 800 but it's more than 1 :D

Any errors? Does the first file get imported?

Already made the fix, just has to get tested.

Ted, when do you think the vb4 editor will be working with this?

To be clear, the editor would be on the product creation page only.... reviews show up as threads following the formatting rules of your site.

Or am I forgetting the idea?

It loads past the import page, to the page where each product is shown and imported, and then hangs there.

Normally I would split them up further, but I would rather resolve this issue - since I have another file with over 8,000 products ready to go :)

Would you like test files?

Fine by me! Just need the editor to make adding content easier than it is right now. Please add this, I can't hardly wait to start using this!

looking forward to updates :)

Hi Ted - I really think you should take a look at my issue. I think there is a bug - I have been trying to problem solve, and found that changing the forum ID changes which product hangs. I can't really debug anymore than this.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Ted S 12-07-2011 05:47 PM

Please PM me with the url of your import file and we will test it out.

The issue with the importer was duplicate product titles which try to create duplicate threads and stop the new thread routine cold in it's tracks.

This copy of admincp/productforums.php should fix that but it may be a little aggressive in sorting out what's a dup. Let me know.

Worked perfectly, thanks Ted.

Is there anyway to get this for 3.8? Maybe for a paid mod?

While the code would be similar 3.8 and 4.0 are very, very different in how they approach templating and to some degree plugins / values. You could certainly make it happen but you're not talking about hiring someone for $50, there'd be a lot of work involved if you chose to bring in an outside coder.

While all of our older mods support the 3.x series, moving forward we're exclusively building for 4.0 and up.

Hi Ted - any chance of making this work with the Google search API for shopping?

That depends on how you see the two playing together...

APIs like this still require you to have a list of products in the system to look up. Google could be integrated to pull back more details, even local stores that sell the item, but not so much to start threads automatically.

If your goal is to get items to list you'd need to get Google's Product Feed. From working extensively with datafeeds I can you tell we're talking serious data, millions and millions of records. Fun stuff too. :D

What would be on your "wishlist" for said update?

1320Nation 12-30-2011 08:50 PM

So without going into a long story, I discover today that in order to access and/or use the settings part of this mod you basically have to have Super Admin permissions.

So my question of coarse would be, is there anyway around this? If I use this feature on my site it will be ran by moderators without super admin access to the admincp. There is noway I want to have to sit on top of a mod such this one that has all it's useability done through the admincp. I'm not sure why any mod that is not a high intake money type mod would need to have super admin access to it's controls. If I appear to be slamming this mod I do not mean for it to come off like that. I apologize to anyone that may take it negatively. So is there a possible solution to get around this?

Killhunter 12-30-2011 11:16 PM

Finally I just wanted to ask 2 things:

First, is it possible to disallow user to post something in a review thread? I mean they should be able to review the product, but not to post something in this thread. ;)

When do you release the next update and which features will it have?

Thank you so much :)

Killhunter 12-30-2011 11:18 PM

And another question: Is it possible to run the Product Advertising API from Amazon.de? So i select a category and the products would be there automatic ;)

You don't need to be a superadmin, you need to be an admin.

In development you make decisions, one of which is to build more features or build less for more user types. Most of boards prefer more functionality but it's never going to be all inclusive.

We chose not to redevelop every admin feature for the mod cp as in most forums content is also approved by the top of the team, not the middle. If you don't work that way you can port the features from the admin cp to the mod cp or give more mods limited admin access.

See the first page of the mod.

It depends on how you want to run it. You could in theory port the API to show ads or buying options on products you've defined or you could go even further and use it to let users search for products to review but you can't create listings with an API alone.

APIs require a query [i.e. looking for _something_]. If you want to get _everything_ in a set category you need a datafeed which, in the case of amazon, is quite a lot of data.

Thanks for the info. However I had a admin account setup with everything except being a superadmin and each time of trying to enter the settings for this mod it gave a message box displaying that account does not have admin permissions.

Well that we can fix.

Since you made the remark, what admin group do you feel the mod should fit into the permissions for [i can make a new one but tend not too unless people really think they'd make admins for just this mod's data]..

forums? threads? users? blog?

I have a gaming forum and i thought i make the thread for the game sticky in a forum for the game.

Games
--Game 1
----Sticky: Review Thread
----Other Threads
--Game 2
----Sticky: Review Thread
----Other Threads

....

If I close the thread, i have to activate the posts manually.

Ted S 01-01-2012 10:35 PM

How about closing the review thread to new posts instead?

Of course i tried this before, but if i do this like that, i have to aktivate each post... :(

Its really important for me...

I'm not sure why? The reviews will manually post as active unless you set them not too.

Killhunter 01-06-2012 10:29 PM

And now? Could you try it at one of your forums?

Killhunter 01-07-2012 09:24 AM

Why we have to activate the addon for each forum? I have one forum for each game, could you modify it for me, that i dont have to activate it for each? Would be really great... :)

Ricsca 01-07-2012 01:30 PM

Is possible upload the photo rather than enter the url?

Why wouldn't you? The mod is not something most forums would want to use in more than a handful of areas.

Like with all of our mods, the goal is to provide you a starting point to grow your site. If you want to make a critical change in the logic, by all means, make it.

Not at this time

I'm having a rather odd issue. I installed the mod with no trouble, but clicking any of the links in the admin panel for it gives me a HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Any ideas?

astdirect 01-13-2012 05:22 PM

Could we have the Product Image a link also using the purchase URL ?

Sure thing. It's an easy change and will make it into the next rev.

500 errors are pretty generic statements. Check your web server's log file for more info and we can solve things from there
