OK, what am I missing here? I just installed vBShout lite 5.3.2 on my 3.8.6 board. I have vBShout enabled but it's not showing on my forum. I'm assuming I'm just missed something??

FYI, I just upgraded my board from 3.6.x to 3.8.6. I had vBShout 2.0 installed which I uninstalled before using 5.3.2.

Hmm, did you try re-uploading all files? It's possible that some of them were corrupted upon upload.
Are you on a shared, VPS or dedicated server?

Fillip

I think I forgot to re import the xml file :)

Are you trying to use the "Below Forum Home" placement location? That doesn't work on vB 3.8 and never will (AFAICR).

If not, ensure all usergroup permissions (Instance Management -> Edit Permissions) are set correctly.

Fillip

Where is the "Below Forum Home" placement location option? I can't find that.

I'm using my admin account, and I have administrators set to have full authority over the shoutbox.

???

WichitaRacing 12-21-2010 09:21 PM

OK weird. I just installed a couple new styles and the shoutbox shows up fine in them, but the previously existing styles (including vbulletin silver and gray) don't work.

DragonByte Tech 12-23-2010 03:11 PM

Instance Management -> Edit.

Either use manual placement or ensure $ad_location['ad_navbar_below'] exists in your navbar template.

Zweeper 12-24-2010 07:04 PM

can i put this shoutbox into

a) vbadvanced cms?
b) into a widget box in the forum?

DragonByte Tech 12-28-2010 08:09 PM

vBAdvanced CMS has a bug which will break the Online Users module when using vBShout on their pages. If this is acceptable there's a guide for how to configure that on their forums.

Widget box position is not supported due to the advanced editor controls.

Is it possible to display status updates from "User Status & Moods v1 (vB3)" ? :D

DragonByte Tech 02-03-2011 02:14 AM

Not currently, no.

Fillip

Taringa! CS 02-03-2011 12:54 PM

Thanks anyway :)

James T Brock 02-05-2011 10:44 PM

How can I prune the command log?

DragonByte Tech 02-05-2011 11:11 PM

It's not intended to be prunable, to do so you must TRUNCATE TABLE on the dbtech_vbshout_commandlog table (at least I think that's the correct table name, check in phpMyAdmin) :)

I have tried searching for this and after 12+ pages i decided to just ask, apologies if this has already been answered.
I am looking to change the colour of the text input area, from white to a colour of my choice, with a default text colour also....I found the option to change the actual shoutbox area in dbtech_vbshout.css but after trying all of the options in that file I still cannot figure out what to change to get the text input area changed.
Thanks for the wonderfull shoutbox, I love the features :)

DragonByte Tech 02-07-2011 04:07 PM

I forget how the vB3 file looks, but isn't there something in the _vbshout_color.css file about the input area? :)

Fillip

natralis 02-07-2011 05:43 PM

no, but i found it now, its in the main css in the stylevars, its the input fields part....but warning it will change all input areas. so be carefull what colour you choose,

Safice 03-05-2011 12:14 AM

Seems I have an error!

Thanks for any help :)

Taringa! CS 03-07-2011 05:39 PM

What's this file?
dbtech/vbshout/aop/shouts1.txt

I've got lots of request from only one ip to that file

DragonByte Tech 03-07-2011 07:43 PM

That's one of the files vBShout uses to store when the last shout was made, to preserve resources.

It has not been tested on 3.7.x so we couldn't say.

Hello, it just says "loading" for me as well. Is there any fix or known cause for that problem?

DragonByte Tech 03-23-2011 01:21 AM

Please check Firefox' Error Console and post any JS errors.

I have a vb board 3.8 and a old shout box vBShout 2.1 do I have to upload all these files again to install this new one or something easier,Thanks

DragonByte Tech 04-23-2011 12:20 AM

If you have the old Inferno Shout then you can use this to install a fresh install yeah.

DragonByte Tech 04-23-2011 12:54 AM

A conflict with DBTech's InfoPanels and vBShout v5.4.0 has been resolved, and the "vBShout v5.4.0 Upgrade Notes.txt" document has been updated along with the files.

For those of you who have already downloaded v5.4.0; Please re-download the zip file, re-upload the files, and re-read that .txt file.

The template variable used to display the shoutbox in a custom location has been updated to resolve the conflict.

Akyeame Kwame 04-23-2011 03:38 AM

I now get this error. I deleted the old xml files but that didn't help.

Code:

Warning: require([path]/dbtech/vbshout_pro/hooks/cache_templates.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in [path]/global.php(355) : eval()'d code on line 633

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/abibitum/public_html/forums/dbtech/vbshout_pro/hooks/cache_templates.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/abibitum/public_html/forums/global.php(355) : eval()'d code on line 633

DragonByte Tech 04-23-2011 03:42 AM

Updated zip, you can re-import the new XML file :)

Now I get this error when trying to update the instance:

Code:

invalid argument in foreach() in [path]/dbtech/vbshout/actions/admin/instance.php on line 372
It also can't display at the footer when I change it to that option. Only below the navbar. Any assistance would be most welcome!

Akyeame Kwame 04-23-2011 04:25 AM

Also prune seems to remove all the messages. Is there a way to remove just one?
And I tried to mention someone with the @____; method (I have user tagging set for @ AND ;) but it didn't do the link. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate this contribution as, when it works, it should greatly increase participation at my forums.

That will be fixed in the upcoming 5.4.1 :)

That function is not possible on vB3, unfortunately :(
I will remove that option from vB3's admincp.

Double-click it.

That is not an advertised or supported feature in the Shoutbox - the mention integration is from posts themselves.

v5.4.1
  • Reworked Instance Management in an attempt to work around Suhosin limitations (feedback requested!)
  • Added a notice in the Instance Management to admins running Suhosin informing them of recommended changes to .htaccess
  • Alternating Shout Colours will now work as intended on vB3
  • Multiple conflicts with other jQuery-based products that prevented the Shoutbox from loading has been fixed
  • The uninstaller has been updated to the new installer format so it will now function correctly
  • The Sticky Note is now properly manageable from the AdminCP
  • The context menu entries now once again work properly
  • Leaving a chatroom will now work as intended
  • Inviting someone to a chat room will now work as intended
  • PHP error on instance management fixed

Due to an exploit discovered by one of DBTech's members we would like to announce the immediate availability of vBShout v5.4.2:
  • It is no longer possible to break the display of vBShout by using %message% or any other % % template variable in user names.
  • The CMS tab will once again light up as intended when browsing the vBCMS page
  • Editing a shout will now correctly display the old shout in the Command Log
In addition, the following fixes were previously applied to v5.4.1 after its release, and are included in this version:
  • The "Max Characters Per Shout" setting is now properly ignored when your Usergroup is a Shoutbox Manager
  • You can now properly delete shouts that, for whatever reason, have an instance id set to 0 and show up in your name
  • The Shoutbox should no longer interfere with other mods adding themselves to the navbar in vB3
Finally, we have received word from one of our Suhosin users that the workaround did not fully comply with Suhosin's restrictions.

Sadly there's nothing further we can do. Due to the sheer number of features included in vBShout, allowing you to configure them all causes Suhosin to believe that vBShout is a malicious script.

That being siad, we have included a notice for Suhosin users that, if followed, should allow the Instance Management to work as intended. Feedback on whether the tips in the notice worked would be welcome.

After upgrading i'm getting "Internal Server Error" when trying to post

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE:

I'm getting blank pages on showthread after upgrade so i'd to disable it

DragonByte Tech 04-25-2011 01:08 PM

Try removing all the .txt files from /dbtech/vbshout/aop and ensure the folder is set to CHMOD 0777.

Fillip

Taringa! CS 04-25-2011 02:45 PM

Yes, it's CHMOD 777. After removing all txt files i'm getting the same blank pages with new vbshout enabled

Thanks Filip

DragonByte Tech 04-25-2011 05:56 PM

Thanks to your diligence in reporting vBShout issues, we've seen it fit to release v5.4.3.

It fixes the following issues:
  • Suhosin users should no longer find the Permissions and BBCode Permissions erased upon saving the Instance Options form.
Please note that it is still required to submit the 3 forms separately, the top form will simply not erase any previous changes you have made to the bottom ones anymore.
  • The Shoutbox can now once again be placed on the vB CMS on vB4
  • It is now once again possible to determine if you have been flagged Idle if the Shout Order is set to Oldest First
  • If you had more than one instance per page, it was possible for the Shoutbox to be stuck on Loading. This has now been corrected.
  • The Shoutbox will now properly display times for shouts made in a global chatroom
  • Deleting or posting a shout in a chat room will no longer show the contents of the "Shoutbox" tab until the shouts refresh again
  • BBCode parsing for notifications should now once again work as intended
  • The Auto-Idle function should now function correctly

Thanks for your patience and assistance in tracking down these issues :)
